Default SH5 Historical Accuracy?

I'm new at SH5, but I was aware enough to note that some of the radio messages I received were somewhat historically accurate in vessels sinking, the time and location of sinking as well.

Since I'm up to par on tonnage, and just waiting for my June 1st date to roll around, I figured I'd try and see if I could witness (or take part of) a historical sinking being recreated for the sake of the radio message I would receive.

I got information on the next historical sinking from here, and showed up at the right place three days early. the Radio message came in with slightly different coordinates and thus discovered that SH5 was a little off on the location compared to the page here, so I reloaded, and went to where SH5 said the sinking took place, but I saw & heard nothing at all except the radio message that did eventually come in stating that the historical sinking of the Jern took place right where I had been sitting for days and saw/heard nothing?:

I did this as a test in hoping that while I wait for June 1st, I could get in as many historricaly accurate battles before hand. I was really hoping to get over to Scapa Flow for the HMS Royal Oak on 10/14/1939 and actually witness or take part? ...

Is it possible to show up at the right place and time to take part in historically accurate engagements? Thanks! - darrin

If the radio message doesn't show up in cyan color it's for immersion purposes only.

Maybe you can talk Trevally into scripting these events you are wanting to see into OHII

right on, ... I'll keep an eye out for cyan ... Thanks ...

So as far as you know, I can't just simply show up at Scapa Flow on Oct 14th, 39 and witness the Oak engagement? .. That seems too bad since it seemed a HUGE event ... too bad to have to miss it! .... what, and I'l miss out on every other great historical engagement in the North Atlantic too? ... (unless I play the 'Historical Missions' ... which don't tie in with my campaign obviously .... ) - thanks again - Darrin

If you install OHII - not only will you see the attack in Scapa flow, you will be expected to do it

If you want any historical battle to be put into the campaign - just post a request in the OHII thread and I wil have a look

See here for help with mods and what order to put them.
OHII will work with your list, but look at the install order against the example in the thread I posted.

Yes - you will need to start a new campaign

will do ... I know my order is a little messed up, but it works, and they all go on or off w/o conflict .... but after looking at your mod page ... I think I might start with a fresh install ..... and use the mods you said you have in order as of 03/02/12 ..... You think I should do a clean re-install of SH5 , or simply diable all mods, then enable them all in the right order?

Imnot sure

You could just uninstall all mods - move the mod folder to your desktop.
Run JSGME so that it makes a new MODS folder in your SH5 dir.
Copy and paste you mods to the new MODS folder that jsgme has just made.
Run jsgme and install in suggested order.

Doing this will get rid of some issues you can get with jsgme if you change your mods a lot.

Excellent tip! ... I would not have thought of that, and SO glad you mentioned it ... I'll do it just as you suggested after work & supper, and let you know ... it'll probably work great using that process:
  1. Launch JSGME, Disable all Mods
  2. Close JSGME
  3. Move SH5/MODS dir to temp location
  4. Launch JSGME which will create create NEW (empty) SH5/MODS dir
  5. Put all desired MODS (+ new OHII MOD) into NEW SH5/MODS dir
  6. Launch JSGME
  7. Enable desired MODS in order as specified here
Thnkas! - Darrin

Thanks for the push in the right direction! It looks like I'm all set up now with the latest OHII and patch!

I started a new campaign before activating any MODS, went through tutorial, got to Kiel and got the green tick, then closed, activated all mods, and started another new campaign, but it did not offer to skip tutorial, .... So I loaded up the auto save from getting the green tick at Kiel from before I activated the MODS, and now I do see different things on my map in upper left corner (plus new main menu top banner says OHII 1939 - 1945).
Does this mean I'm good to go with OHII working and in place? Even though I was not able to start a new campaign after activating the MODS (because it didn't offer to skip the Tutorial, and thats why I simply loaded the auto save after activating ALL the MODS).

Should I simply start a new campaign with all the MODS activated and go through the Tutorial again?, or am I good to go now? How can I tell for sure that my campaign is useing OHII?

I opened up my newest Campaign-2012-03-09_0102\Campaign.cfg and see this:

[Campaign]
NameId=TotalGermany39
Title=Campaign.Title
Description=Campaign.Description
StartDate=19390903
EndDate=19400601
IsStartingCampaign=true
RequiredSubTypes=SSTypeIIA,SSTypeVIIA,SSTypeVIIB,S STypeVIIC

RequiredCareerAchievements=

[Campaign.CampObj]

ValuePointsRequired=8

DateMajorVictory=19400601

[Campaign.CampObj.MacroObj 1]
ObjectiveID=TG_Scapa_Flow
Name=Campaign.CampObj.MacroObj 1.Name
MapZone=Scapa_Raid
ValuePointsProvided=1
FurtherInfo=Campaign.CampObj.MacroObj 1.FurtherInfo
StartDate=19390910
EndDate=19391015
IsCompleted=false
IsFailed=false
IsUnlocked=true
AssocMissionsActive=
AssocMissionsCompleted=
ObjActivationAchievements=

[Campaign.CampObj.MacroObj 1.PersObj 1]
PersObjType=0
Name=Sink_1_capital_ship_in_Scapa_Flow
Description=Campaign.CampObj.MacroObj 1.PersObj 1.Description
RelatedMapLocations=
IsCompleted=false

and so on ....

It looks like there is new stuff in there, compared to older Campaign.cfg's I opened in other older folders .... Does this mean I'm now on my way utilizing OHII?

Here's my new map and the top left looks different now:

http://www.mainecustomdesign.com/SH5...t_start_sm.jpg

I hope I'm actually running the OHII even though I could not start a new campaign and skip the tutorial AFTER activating my MODS? ... It never offered to skip tutorial for some reason, and actually went right into the tutorial immediatly ... I tried to start a new campaign twice and it never offered to skip Tutorial. That's why I loaded the auto save reaching kiel from before I activated all the MODS, I hope it will still work, or is working now.

On a different note: I followed your suggested MOD soup order of activation, then, then added my other MODS that I like (that were not listed in your soup) at the end ...

It said there were conflicts as I activated, but I went with through with it it anyways ... I hope I didn't mess it all up:

http://www.mainecustomdesign.com/SH5/activated_mods.jpg

Is this overwriting and warnings OK? Just go through with it anyways?

All seems to be ok with the gameplay itself, and all seems to be working as I want it to as long as I'm actually utilizing OHII with the exception of one thing ..... the wake looks different now ... never saw it like this:

http://www.mainecustomdesign.com/SH5/OHII_Water2.jpg

Is this normal? It used to look very realistic before this massive MOD upgrade ... now it looks like someone took a big paintbrush across the foam ....

If I can verify I am on my way with OHII working correctly, I won't care about this wierd looking trail ..... unless someone knows what is causing it or if it is suppossed to look like that now .... or If I can fix it manually?

Thanks again SO much, I just want to get back to late Sept 39 again so I can look forward to actually having a role in Scapa in Oct, as well as other historical events! - Thank you! - Darrin Cates

Hi darrincates

It looks like the campaign has loaded ok

If you want to be sure, follow this guide for starting OHII:-
Starting New Career
Just click "New Campaign" - enter your name and select the first campaign "Coastal Waters". Skip the tutorial.

UPDATE: The tutorial is now working (from v1.7) so you can install your mods and OHII to play the tutorial. If you use TDWs UI, you need to enable the strategic marker on the TIA. You can do this with the options button at the base of the TAI (small target shap button).

If you do have problems with the tutorial - use the info below to start your career.

When starting a new campaign using OHII - DO NOT PLAY THE TUTORIAL - you will get a ctd when returing to Kiel at the end of the tut. Select "Skip Tutorial" when starting.
If you are not getting an option to skip the tutorial when starting a new career, go to Documents\SH5\data\cfg\CareerHistory.cfg and edit the file with Notepad. Change the following line:

HasCompletedTutorial=false
with
HasCompletedTutorial=true

PHEW! ... PHEW! ... I will verify strategic marker is enabled ... What would be the first 'event' (radio message from BDU?) that would verify that OHII is running the campaign vs the stock SH5 campaign?

ie: Is there a particular date/mission/radio message, that will verify I can be SURE I'm running the OHII campaign?

I do apologize as I have OCD, and need to be sure before I'll be able to relax & enjoy ....

Also, any idea about the water in my wake? ... Is it suppossed to look like that? Or is one of my MODS clashing with enviroment MOD?

It kinda looks like someone used a big paintbrush across it ....

Thanks again for helping me verify OH II is in control of my campaign, and lemme know what you think about my wake as well! // TTYL! - Darrin

PS I have a GIG of authentic radio programs/news broadcasts, variety shows, etc, from Britain & Germany for Sept - Dec of 1939 and some spring/summer of 1940. 40+ radio stations if you ever need anything like that. (I'll dig for more as I get to the dates in campaign. Some are hours long .. great listening and brings a little extra authentic real feel when on the surface. One is a full day broadcast all day long.

The fact that the first campaign is called Coastal Waters rathen than Total germany, shows the campaign files have loaded

To ensure the extras have loaded - you should see buoys as you leave and enter bases

Re: wake - sorry, I have not seen that before
