Default Need a bit of help

Hey guys,

I've played SH4 in the past, and decided to get SH5 last week (a bit late, since the game was released ages ago).

I'm still trying to catch up with the new things in SH5. I'm on my second mission now in the Total Germany campaign.

  • I'm finding it hard to locate any ships. For some reason the only contact reports I receive from the Bdu are hundreds of kilometers away.

  • I'm still trying to figure the hydrophones out. I wish Ubisoft made a much more in-depth tutorial, because they don't explain anything in the game, and the manual is .. crap.

  • I can't find the recognition manual, I think it's at the right of my screen, but it seems that because of the screen resolution I can't open it. I tried to have a look in my \Silent Hunter 5\ folder for a Pagelayout file, but can't find any..

  • Everytime I stop the submarine, the Officer recommends doing a search pattern. The only problem is... where do I activate a search pattern? I've tried talking to him directly but it's not there, so where do I get the search patterns?

As I said I'm in the second mission, so I don't really have a problem with the campaign or other warships... yet. There are tons of mods available, but I don't really want to change the game that much, not until I'm done with the campaign.

I saw that there is an extended campaign mod, will this mod change the 1939 - 1943 campaign in any way?

Also, which mods do you guys suggest? (only to fix annoying bugs and to change a few other things). I don't really want a lot of new things in the game, maybe just more ships or a better submarine (dials etc).

If you guys could give me a short list of the mods that are absolutely necessary, that would be a great help. I realise that there are probably 100 people who already asked for a shot list of mods, but as I said, I don't really want to change the things that I don't have to..

Thank you in advance

Ok, I found out how the hydrophones work. It was because I could hear cars and dogs outside, the hydrophones require absolute silence to hear the propulsion of the ships :P

I also found the recognition manual, if I put manual targeting on, and when I turn the TDC ON and click on the type of ship I get the manual, but where can I get the recognition manual when I don't have map data on?

I currently have no mods installed.
I have a 64-bit Windows 7 OS, 2.60 Dual core, 4gb RAM and a GeForce 9600 GT graphics card with dedicated memory. Is this essential for mods?

@ Sailor Steve

Which supermod do you suggest I download? Which one would be easier to use for me haha.. I really can't calculate the TDC on my own, I've tried but then my torpedoes go way off into the wrong direction, so I mainly use my own instinct (which is about 50% spot on, but 50% miss)

Rather than post a list which would consist of my favorites (and I'm fond of saying "One player's 'must have' is another player's 'meh'") here is a thread devoted to different mods and what they do.

D'OH!

There are people trying to prove that I'm stupid. Somehow they manage to miss the places where I do just fine myself. I read almost every thread on almost every forum, and sometimes I get behind myself...or ahead of myself...or completely lost.

Sorry about that. I'm deleting the post, just so no one else gets confused by my confusion.

@ HeroUnderFireZA: Special apologies to you. The last thing you need at this point is to be following the blind man off the edge of the cliff.
