Default A noob requesting some help

OK all, here's the situation:

I've recently ordered the Starforce-free version of SH 3 (via the Subsim link of course ) and after combing the many threads here, I find myself still a bit confused. What I'm after is some kind of step by step sequence for installing the game and mods. My intention is to use GWX and Commander on my Windows 7 machine, so if someone could nail down the process for me, that would be awesome.
I did read through the Windows 7 thread, but after seeing the variety of different issues, and the responses to same; it is a bit challenging to figure out the road to a trouble free install right out of the gate.
Any help would be most appreciated!

Just load up SH3,

It's best to use the mod enabler, JSGME. Load GWX from there. There are a lot of options GWX3, and JSGME makes adding whatever you want very easy to do.

SH3 Commander, just follow the installation directions for it. I installed it before GWX, and haven't had any issues, so you should be fine there.

Before adding anything, I think you have to load the game up once. Just go to one of the tutorials, and just exit out after it loads up. Add Commander, and configure GWX to whatever add-ons you want after the initial install.

Sorry, I don't have windowz 7, as I built this rig when Vista was the rage. Got it running like XP though for the most part so it's comfortable to use. Want to get win7 when I can afford it.

Install into C:\games - not into the default installation path.
(This tricks the UAC feature and you'll have no problems to mod the game)

Check the SH3.EXE in the installation folder - rightclick - Properties - Tab Details - Version is 1.4.0.1 - you are patched to 1.4b
If the version reads different - install the correct 1.4b patch for your region.

That's all to care about - you're good to go. The latest SH3 orders have no SF drivers aboard and you'll have not to care for them.

If you want to use the commander - start the game once.

Now install SH3 commander and GWX - or whatever you want to play...

@Bubblehead729:

There are a lot of issues that can come up with Win7, but as far as just getting the game, GWX, and Commander installed, here are the basics.

1. Install the game. On Win7 it's recommended that you install it somewhere other than the default location, i.e., don't let it install in either of the Program Files directories. Make another directory somewhere and install it there.

2. Get GWX3 from Jimbuna's Gamefront site:

http://www.gamefront.com/files/user/jimbunaGWX3.0

You will need all the GWX3 bin files and the GWX3.exe file. Download and save all the files to your Desktop or the same folder on your local computer. They must be in the same location for the installer to find everything it needs when you start the installation process.

(There is also single file torrent version if you look through the stuff at the URL above.)

Install GWX3 by double-clicking on the GWX3.exe file and pointing the installer to your game folder (if you followed the instructions about not installing the game to the default location, the GWX3 installer will not automatically find it).

3. JSGME will be included automatically with your GWX3 installation, but it's an older version. You can open it and use the Update feature to get the newest version.

4. You can get the latest version of Commander here:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=2923

With GWX3 you will also need the special config files for GWX + Commander:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=1421

Install Commander, then run the self-installer for the config files.

The only part of GWX that you can load via JSGME are the optional GWX mods that you get with the GWX installation; the full supermod must be installed first, and that's not done by enabling it in JSGME.
