Default Blackberry services down in Europe, Middle East and Africa

Quote:
Millions of Blackberry owners across Europe, the Middle East and Africa have been left without services following a server crash.
Owners of the smartphones were unable to browse the web, send email or instant messages.
The problem appears to have originated in a data centre in Slough which handles Blackberry services for the affected regions.
Blackberry UK said it knew about the problem and was "investigating".

Android is definatley the best value mobile platform with out a doubt
Apples stuff just isnt worth the price at all. its all just clever branding & marketing with them, nothing more.
As a developer though, IOS is prefered because of the standardised hardware. testing for Android hardware is a bitch and a half.... so many devices.

You just contradicted yourself. Consumers surely benefit if lots of devs are attracted to a platform like ios because of standardised hardware.

Anyway, most of the time smartphones are bought on contract so the price difference is not as big as people think. My phone company (Sunrise) offers 3Gs for 1 franc as well as the iphone 4 16 GB-I got my iphone 4 at 100 francs because I went for the 32 Gb model for the same unlimited data plan which is where most of the difference lies. The current android top of the line they offer the Samsung Galaxy SII (which a friend has and is pretty happy with) is also 100 CHF with a similar plan.

That is currently top of my list, but Samsung have the Droid Prime coming out soon with Ice Cream Sandwich - they've held off from today's press unveiling out of respect for Jobs.

A simple calls-only phone was what I wanted, but the one I got was only $30, and it does a lot of cool stuff. That said, it has Blackberry but I have no idea what that does besides hands-free calling, and I have it switched off.

You'd think so but No, because consumers don't choose their platform soley based on the apps available (if they even consider it at all), they choose based on the hand set they like the feel of, it's basic functionality, cost/price plan and if they are dumb enough- how trendy/fashionable it is.

To be more specific on what I said, its really games devs that prefer iOS since games are the most technically demanding apps and require more rigorous testing. (Remember that many consumers are not interested in games.)
And Just because Android development is harder, it doesn't mean they won't do it.

Apple really try to over sell their app range & store in their ad campaign "if you dont have an iphone that means you dont have the app store" question is does anyone really care?
hell let's face it, the reality is that 99% of all mobile apps are completely non essential, while some are handy, the majority of them are just pure fluff. Most people know this.

No, as we've seen here at Subsim the developers really like a challenge to get their teeth into.
