JSGME warning messages

I was wondering if all of the warning messages through JSGME were serious or whether you could simply apply the 'greyed out' mods at your own risk?
In my particular setup of about 15 or so mods now I have 2 that appear to be generating a warning message,they are:

- fubar's new skins & beard mod (which I cant really live without now)
- raptor's grey all leather mod (the one that gives all the watch crew grey leathers)

I am generally assuming that SOME mods can be left 'greyed out' in the warning window as 1 or 2 appear to work with no apparent problem,and some probably will need more attention before enabling.

Whats your take on warning messages in general?,should we act on them immediately and not activate the highlighted mods,or should we take a risk and see what happens?,of course,so long as they are all setup prior to the patrol!

When a mod is greyed-out, it means that one or more files have been replaced, and it lists the files involved, and cites the mod that contained that file or files. What you have to do is note the replaced files and understand that the cited mod has been broken as regards the replaced file or files.
You should note that these files have already been replaced in your install by the cited mod.
Now what you need to do is either make the replaced files compatible or live with the portion of the mod that has been broken.
In general, files that are difficult to make compatible are menu 1064, configuration files, camera files and campaign files.
Other than the above general ideas, your question is impossible to answer.

Ok,guess its trial and error and see if anything pops up that shouldnt.It would appear that the files affected are either crew skins or clothing tga's,nothing too serious I dont think.

Graphics and sounds are generally the least prone to cause any catastrophic events.

I'm not going to tamper really with the campaign structure or anything like that,mainly interested in improved graphics/textures,sounds for immersion,and a few gameplay tweaks here and there,like in game warning orders etc.

The warning message means that the new mod wants to change something that has already been changed by another mod. While something really bad is possible, most of the time the worst that can happen is that something in the earlier mod won't work anymore.

The best thing you can do is copy whatever the message says and post it here. There is always one of us who can tell if it's a bad thing or not.

The biggest one to watch out for is 'Menu.ini'. This will change something central to the game and has a good chance of overriding something you don't want changed.

The one you don't have to worry about at all is 'Readme'. They don't show up in-game anyway.

As for things that are greyed-out, I don't see why that's a concern because those are mods you've already overwritten. All 'greyed-out' means is that you can't uninstall those mods without uninstalling something else first, and if you try to uninstall a greyed-out mod JSGME will stop you and tell you what those others are.

Thanks for that Steve,

Interestingly most of the warnings (there are only 3 I think) are relating to the readme as you mentioned,and there is one that alters scene.dat,I think it was the camera mod by Stormfly and Dolphins,I may be wrong.
I will draw a summary of my mods up shortly,as i'm just installing some new mods here one at a time
