About SH3 commander sunken ship details

are the crew alive/dead numbers randomly made up or does commander actually take into account on how the ship was attacked? Sank an Empire ship and all but one crew member was killed (72 crew). The attack occurred North of the British mainland and the ship went down after taking a torpedo and ~24 shells, plus it took her awhile to capsize (maybe 30 mins) so its not like she went down quickly.

Overall it was a good patrol for U-494 and we sunk a tramp steamer and a medium cargo on our way back from the DJ grid square (why BDU sent us all the way down there will be mystery) plus we got reassigned from Wilhelmshaven to Lorient on the way back home.
