About SH3 commander sunken ship details
are the crew alive/dead numbers randomly made up or does commander actually take into account on how the ship was attacked? Sank an Empire ship and all but one crew member was killed (72 crew). The attack occurred North of the British mainland and the ship went down after taking a torpedo and ~24 shells, plus it took her awhile to capsize (maybe 30 mins) so its not like she went down quickly.
Overall it was a good patrol for U-494 and we sunk a tramp steamer and a medium cargo on our way back from the DJ grid square (why BDU sent us all the way down there will be mystery) plus we got reassigned from Wilhelmshaven to Lorient on the way back home. |
I think it's random, I doubt SH3 commander can track how long it took for a ship to sink, where you hit it and stuff like that.

I would also assume it is random. Maybe the size of the crew is matched to the ship type, but I would be suprised, and impressed, if it was more precise than that.
Point of real life- Sadly, many a sailor who survived the actual sinking of his ship did not survive to be rescued. That's how Commander might say only one man out of 72 survived to be rescued even if most of the crew made it off the sinking ship. |

The survivors have to be randomized, otherwise any time you sink the Hood it would always have only 3 survivors. Any tankers/merchants carrying tnt/bauxite would also probably have 100% casualties as well, though it does a good job of modelling casualties for cargo in most cases. |
