Question about sunk ship icons

I know red means enemy vessel sunk but what does a grey one mean? it sank out of sight or its unconfirmed?

It means it was sunk by other means, a collision or weather for instance. Either way, you don't get credit for it. I had this happen to me once.

Yes, you do get credit for grsy sinkers. It hapens when you don´t see the ship sink. I find it is not consistent as to why it appears gray.

I agree that you do get credit for grey icon sinkings. I had a couple on my last patrol and got credit for both of them.

I thought you had to see a ship sink to get credit for it? I never found out if I got tyhe credit for the one int the picture as I died that patrol.
