OpenHatch V3.09 Mod problem

I have been using Diving Ducks great mod for sometime now without issue. However, a patrol or two ago I decided that rather than have two crew members man the sonar and radio at all times, I would use just one and switch him around as necessary depending whether I was surfaced or submerged. For some strange reason, doing this has stopped the animation of the observation scope working. The scope goes up but the animation doesn't show it going up in the control room. Occassionally I get the message "no officer at the helms station" when I press shift+O. To cure the problem I've gone back to the old set up of permanantly manning both the sonar and radio. Anyone got any ideas why this is happening?
