Default Do stupid mistakes warrant retries?

Simple enough question I think, which means there are probably endless points of view, but I'm curious because I find myself making lots of stupid mistakes and then lots of retries. So, if you make a really stupid mistake in the process of conducting an attack, ie forget to update the bearing to target so the fish run wildly in the wrong direction, do you allow yourself to return to a previous save to retry the attack? Or do you just suck it up and move on?

Thanks

Well, if I make "stupid" mistakes like hitting the wrong key or something I'll usually reload. If I miss with all torpedoes though when it was my own screw up, then I'll suck it up.

See I'm caught between those two positions.... forgetting to set the right bearing is something that would never actually happen with all the sets of eyes on the gear, but missing by actually missing is fair game... The problem I keep facing is misses due to issues which wouldn't normally be an issue because I'd have crew backing me up, so I'm not sure if those still warrant a retry.

I'd say your philosophy is correct in my own opinion.

Every thought is a mystery. Do what you believe is real in the game and don't feel like you're "cheating". If you want to re-try do it. But don't get to the point where you'll reload every mistake!

I just play on..If I screw up, just keep going. If I die, I start over. Some careers I play for fun, but usually 100% no cams, no contacts and no using saves...Really makes you stay on your toes...but very slow play.

I tend to just suck it up and chalk it up as a miss.Subs did often miss in rl and sometimes by stupid errors, even greas like O Kane mention dumb errors in his book.

No way is right or wrong, I play 100 realism, no cams or contacts so if i miss or make dumb mistake, i just say oh well and try to get in for another attack later.

The exception is if power goes out or the rare CTD, then the save I made when first made contact is loaded, otherwise i just go on .

I play 75 realism. I have map contact updates on, but cam on because I love external cam. I take a lot of pics When I'm playing a battle I tend to forget about cam and do things the real way.

Anyways....
About loading after a mistake, it's a personal choice.

Depends on the mistake. If I screw up a firing solution I play on.
If it's a hit the wrong key or something like that I might load a save.
There are somethings that happen in a game that would never happen in real life so that is how I play it.

ive been playing the game for about 2 weeks now, and i reload.

I reload when my torpedoes which should go 20% to port, instead go 20% to starport (took me a while to realize i had to press the speed button, AoB and distance button TWICE each for the values to be stored correctly AND that the periscope has to be at the correct angle when pressing the buttons)

I reload when torpedoes which should hit the target, goes under the target. (took me a while to realize that ships are loaded differently and not always have the keel at the depth spesified in the recognition manual)

I reloaded many times before i figured out how to properly prioritize and start repairing damage.

I reload whenever i manage to reach a location where a convoy or task force is reported to be at a specified time and for unknown reasons are not. Each time i reload i try different search patterns at, or close to the area to try and locate them. To this date i have managed to reach such a location 4 times, but despite MANY reloads and different search techniques i have not been able to spot any of these juicy targets, not even whem in there several days in advance (imho these radio messages are just for flavour)

I reload trying to figure out why i, despite being in 1943, have not been able to buy a single upgrade equipment, or update my boat. I have managed to sink almost 50K tonnage, am at the top of the scoring list yet still am sailing around in my old clunky S-boat with the same equipment i got issued when pearl harbour happened.

I reload for various other reasons when something happends which i dont understand in an effort to try and figure out what caused them.

Nappy, an S-boat in 1943 and they still haven't offered a new fleet boat? That's odd. It could be your mod soup...
