RFB_2.0
RFB_2.0_Patch_23April2010
RSRDC_RFB_V575
RSRDC_V5xx_Patch1

i guess ill have to remove the mods 1 by 1 to try and figure out which one
is causing me trouble.....but before that ill try a few more missions.. just to be sure

Default I vote to retry

Don't be hard on yourself. In real life you would never be given command of a boat with the knowledge and training that you have. So consider it 'on the job training'.

As you point out, in real life you would have crew well trained to help you with the calculations and settings.

I'm normally against ever restarting, but if you are starting out a patrol and are thinking about something else and hit '5', and your sub roars out at flank speed, hits the opposite pier and kills you, I'd say that's well within the bounds of being cheated by the game.

Anything along those lines, sure I'll restart, DiD or no DiD.

nappy, to help get a new boat the best thing is to complete as many missions as you can on each patrol, try to get at least 3. Don't do any refits but finish a patrol with what you start out with. After 3 or 4 patrols you should get a new boat.

As far as loading saves goes when I was just starting I loaded a lot of saves.
Almost the only way to learn what you're doing. You don't have anybody to teach you all the things you need so loading saves is the teacher.

So much for being less mysterious...

The point I guess I'm looking at is the fact that there are stupid mistakes that could happen, and there are stupid mistakes that would not happen. If you were in silent running while stopped and waiting to pounce, I'm pretty sure that an all-ahead-flank order without warning (something that happens to me a lot because of view changes) would probably be questioned a little, which is one of the reasons chains of command and repeated orders exist, so that someone in the line can avoid stupid actions (at least I've been told).

I guess the sweet spot for me is I reload if the mistake was something that most likely wouldn't happen like firing torpedos without setting the PK properly, going to flank while I'm trying to sneak away, or accidentally surfacing rather than changing course... Those are fun... But I won't reload if I just get a bad solution or other realistic error.

I guess the most important point is how real I want it to be. I don't have a lot of time to play, so spending 3 hours setting up a shot just to forget to turn the PK off and have the shot miss by a mile is not my definition of fun. As a result, I save often, and have added a mod to make tracking easier. Yeah its not 100% real, but if I spend a lot of time with no kills, I tend to move on to another game for a while.
