I've read somewhere there is a sea mod for SH3 ehich makes the water more realistic.
Has anyone tried it? Have screenies?

Yup. That would be Rik007's SH5 water mod. Nicely done. I use it exclusively. He is up to version .9 now. There's Atlantic (default) Arctic and the Med in the package. I use the 20km version. The Sky reflection influences the water color very realistically and the waves speed has been changed, not to mention wave types. Also...no flat sun.
Right now my U108 Type IXB is just south of Iceland in 15km/s weather. Just being up in the conning surfaced watching 30ft swells around me "almost" makes me want to be seasick...I love this mod. ![]() |

I'm using RIK007 SH5 Water for SH3 - here's the thread on it. (Edit: d'oh forgot the link but somebody else posted it so... never mind!)
There are actually three mods in the file I originally downloaded, one each for the Atlantic, Arctic, and Mediterranean IIRC. There was an update done with versions that included a "flat sun fix" for ATI cards, I'm now using the Atlantic mod that includes that and I really like it. Sorry but since I was switching back and forth from that and another env mod plus different experimental combos of both for a while, I can't remember if I have screenies that I know for sure are using SH5 Water and I didn't take any on two patrols since I finally settled on it. There are some screenies in that thread though. |

I had major problems with CTDs within several successive careers when I was switching back and forth from this mod to others in between patrols just to see what I liked best. Not the only mod changes I made every time, but certainly the only major ones. Can't say for sure if it would be a problem to enable/disable this mid-career and YMMV but personally I wouldn't risk it again.

You shouldn't have a problem with crashes if you implement the mod in-base. During my career, I will switch over to Arctic (between patrols) if I am up further north. I only switch between default Atlantic and Arctic between patrol anyway. However, I have switched then on saved games with no problems. This is NOT a GUI mod like Magiu3.2, OLC and/or GWX. This is an environment mod. For me, I've never had a problem switching in patrol saves. But to be safe...make the changes between patrols (in base).
