Default Multi-crewed subs.

If you can have multiplayer, with each player controlling a sub, how hard would it be to have one sub with 3 or more crew made up of human players?

Proabably just the ones who had a job that is doable in game (sonar, weapons officer, captain etc.) or just let them take the places of whatever is relevant at the time. Now that would truly be something.

Im guessing there would be no way to mod something like this (dont stop trying to think of one though) but it would be a simple enough (?) change for the devs. Just allow more than one playable character on ship, give them bodies (maybe), and divide up the orders they can give.

Im sure its been brought up before but anyway.

Yeah i was kind of hoping we would see muli crewed multiplayer. I mean now that we only have conrtol over key crew members why not give us the abilaty to BE them in multiplayer. There are enough people on this forum i,m sure of would make a great crew. But who knows maybe in an addon.

Bernard is ment to be played by kids under 12 years of age. His character IQ doesnt allow any higher age.

It's not that simple actually. It involves changing the networking code, and the routines used for MP gaming. It'd need some commitment. But yeah, it'd be damn cool, specially if the stations were done in sufficient detail to require 1 human player. For example, man the ballast tanks, having to use all valves. Or man the dive planes... those things would be awesome. And would boost MP usage ratios.

Cheers

It wouldn't be that hard to simulate right now. Since you wouldn't be able to see anything the captain does, you can have pretty much anything you want on your screen. Every so often, I'll send you text messages like 'ahead two thirds' or 'steer 35 degrees'. Then you hit the appropriate key on your keyboard. If you want to be the torpedo man, it'll be much the same, except I'll message you much less often.

Not hard to simulate, but hard to program.
Imagine the stations to multi-play: sound/radio, engines, torpedoes, sub control (diving and steering), ballast control, and watches. All those duties that have lots of details to micromanage. And above all, the captain coordinating everything. I can tell you now, it'd be a blast. Much more than having the MP full human wolfpacks, which has gotten too old now, it's not as fun as it used to.

Cheers

Not so. Any of us can screw up. Bernard is who we blame when we do something stupid and don't want to take credit.

Like the time I...waitaminute. You don't fool me that easily.

This feature would be very interesting indeed.
However, wouldn't be even more interesting to have human manned destroyers so we can have the same battles we had with SHII and DC?

Much more than what the OP says, yes. But that's been proposed a number of times, and we have yet to see if it ever gets done. So in the meanwhile, we can throw out all cool ideas we have.

Cheers

Hi there Sailor Steve!!! So long!!.

I have been on dry dock for a while awaiting some surface sim to broach.

On the meantime I am catching up with SHIII and SH IV, hehe I have actually just reinstalled them again and starting new campaings with both.

Nice seeing you here. Hope one day we can have another DD vs Sub engagements as we did on the past. Playing those againt you was always a real tough challenge.

hehe and for not being accused of hijacking the thread, I would like to add would be also great to be able to play toghether on the same crew of a MP SHV game.
