Default Witnessing historic events?

I will admit I am a noob to SH games, but I played SH3 for a while and it always bugged me how I could stay in the English Channel during the early period of the war, and never see waves of German bombers flying towards Britain on bombing runs, or staying near Normandy in June 6th 1944 and never seeing the allied landings.

Do you think we will see this in SH5?

You can certainly see the Normandy landings with GWX. But you probably won't live to tell anybody about it.

As long as SH5 is moddable we'll see all the historical happenings. I wouldn't count on the the developers wasting what little time they have worrying about those things.

Neither will your computer. That's a lot of ships!

(jimbuna would be proud)

I certainly would expect all ocean traffic to be realistically recreated. If a Battleship was operating in 1942 in an area then it should in the game. too much to ask for D-day landings and what would be the point there is no way your getting near the area. Trust me no way......they had about 10 levels you had to get past and if the first did not get you the second, third would...

On the other hand it is a game.. I don't want to know all the places where the enemy will be.. I want to look for the enemy.

More importantly, should we be able to alter historic events? Should those altered events affect the ongoing (in game) events?

Save the Bismark? (for example)

But then you come up against the problem of what cascading effects altering history has on your simulated Battle of the Atlantic. The British wouldn't just be sending convoys routinely in a business as usual fashion across the Atlantic if the Bismarck is sitting with two battlecruisers in Brest and the Tirpitz is nearing completion. Would the game framework be able to realistically handle all the changes?

very early on i can remember the devs saying they were liking the idea of a check box in options to have your actions effect the outcome of the war or to stick to the historic patterns.

i never did see if they ever committed one way or the other on adding this to the game.

Well, they did mention that part at the subsim meet. When choosing between 3 mission orders, they said your choice and your performance could have effects on the war outcome. But I don't remember if this was part of choice settings...

I'm sure that Bismarck will sink in 1941.
I remember that the game responds to the player's actions. If you defend Bismarck is probably that the AI will send more ships, for example 4 English battleships against Bismarck. The player even if he wants do not sank all main ships.
I you lost all torpedoes you must return to homebase and Bismarck may be lost anywhere & anytime for example at next day (by planes, submarines, other taskforce, minefield).

We command only one small submarine - you cannot change of result of war similar like you cannot destroy all ships in convoy.
