Default Merchants that fire starshells?

Now I know that in GWX the merchants will illumate the area with there search lights but I was wondering if instead of search lights one can make the merchant(s) fire a star shell verticly. The reason I ask this is because in the first book about I have ever read about U-boats(Grey Wolf Gray Sea by E.B Gasaway) it metioned that after U-124 started torpedoing ships in a convoy the ships started fireing starshells and/or distress rockets to ilumate the area of the convoy. And I belive I have read about similar instances in other books. I was wondering if there was a mod like this out or it someone can make such a mod.

[Edit]
Please move this to the Mod workshop. I dont know how to delete the thread.

I SH2 they had distress rockets, but not starshells or searchlights.

It would be cool if they all did.

There's a mod out there somewhere that makes merchants fire red star shells when in distress. I can't remember where I saw it though. Probably in the downloads section here.

I could almost swear that the ships in my GWX3.0+MODS install do fire star shells. They fire them at my suspected position however.

I'm pretty sure I've seen several merchies fire off red signals when they take damage or sink, but I don't think I've seen star shells.

Default starshell

Interesting. Last night my U-371 was 100km west of Iceland when I met up with a large convoy with 2 DD as escorts. After I fired a wide spread of 4 torps at the main body and hit a tanker 2 or 3 merchants lit up with searchlights. Then...a starshell popped up between me and the tanker I just hit. I thought it came from the destroyer. However, the closest destroyer was 5km away and the farthest 6km. The starshells were low over the water in my general direction and 2 were fired. Good thing was, I could now see my prey even better. I turned 180° and was able to manually target another smaller vessal with my aft torpedo...it sank too. The starshells stopped when the tanker was just about going under and the destroyer 4km away heading right for me. I high-tailed it out of there in shallow (80m) waters at flank speed. That was the first time I saw starshells from a merchant.

I think this is part of the SH4 effects for SH3 mod. If there is a separate mod out there that does this then I'd be interested know where I can get it?

I have the effect you are talking about, but am at work right now. I will see what it was when I get home tonight. (I think Capt Nemo might be right though, that it is the SH4 effects for SH3..but I am not absolutely sure)

I just attacked a convoy a day or 2 ago, and there were starshells from the merchants as well as a red distress flare from the one I sent down. (also, several merchants had their search lights on as well....it was quite the light show!)

If I'm not mistaken the SH4 effects for SH3 is not fully compatible with GWX 3.0, a pity as I would have liked to give it a try. See for more info http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...0&postcount=17

Hmm....it works perfectly for me in GWX3...

Maybe I have a newer version of this mod? I think someone re-did it for GWX3, and that may be the version I downloaded.

I will double check my SH3 Commander tonight and see exactly what the mod I have is called, although I was pretty positive it's the Racerboy version.

The latest version was made for GWX3.0 and seems to work fine. I cannot state with total certainty that there is no risk to your game of course, but I have been running it for a long time without so much as a hiccup.
