You mean using the teleporter?

Mau,
I like to return to base because I like the full immersion experience. There is nothing like it (if you have the imagination and time to indulge). I enjoy coming into port at night when I can be on the sail and give the commands to make into the inner harbor and find a pen to slip in. The patrol is done with a well executed docking and that to me is gratifying ( I wonder if anyone else will concur? ). Nope one gets no reward. BUT with that said if there was a mod with pennants that pooped up for the claims that would be very desirable so one can take pictures of one's boat for bragging rights!! ![]()

I agree yep. Whilest there isn't an actual reward, but there's something about returning to the exact place I left from six weeks ago. A few minutes to reflect on what changed since I left, ships sunk, captains log, crew lost, beards grown.
I like the full circle thing, ending where it began each patrol with some new experiences in between. ![]() |

For me, it depends on how much gas I have left, and what my schedule is like. If I have freetime to kill, I'll read a book while taking the return journey to the sub pen.

also, you sound cooler if you return from a 60 day patrol and not a 6 day patrol.

Nothing like the TCx1 return to port after a long patrol. The band, the flowers go good with a beer.

To me, it actually feels good to dock in port. The band is playing, the girls are waving and throwing flowers. It's all fantasy anyway. May as well play the whole part. I fell like I deserved the R&R I've got coming. Visit with the wife and kids, the wife, the wife....

I suppose it's down to each individual and the level of immersion they enjoy.
I've got my main playable installation files tweaked so I can teleport back without any impact on the realism level....saves me a lot of the small period of time I have for playing the game ![]() |

I've rarely gone so far as pulling up to the dock, but I usually get within sight of the harbor before I end the patrol. I enjoy the challenge of trying to get home with the possibility of being sunk on the way.

Kapt Z,
You should try laying her in a pen using your boating skill which matches well against RL docking. I watch knobs who have the money to spring for $ boats who crash into their slip with a bunch of guests trying to handle lines. A little bit of weather throws them off with wind or current causing havoc. ![]() In the sim, you can ease her in at slow to no speed using momentum calling for reverse and using the rudder but not independent twin screws as the boat reacts as if she had a single screw. Now here is the fun part. If you screw up ... well that could be bad would it not? ![]() So give it a try and you will become hooked. Returning to base with one round in the chamber is a fun ... and docking in a pen is very immersive. You will feel accomplishment and be ready for proper shore leave! ![]()

While I don't doubt what you say is true I just rarely have the patience by the time the patrol is finally over. Hard enough to find time to play the game at all with real world stuff going on.

I've done the docking thing once but playing time is limited and I prefer to get as much time at sea as possible. Coming home, I get within 25km of port and teleport the rest of the way. Same thing with starting a patrol-I use SH3Commander to start the patrol at sea. ![]()
