Default Just venting, no need to read!

On my own in the house atm, so nobody to whinge at, lol. So far this evening I've spent almost an hour and have dumped five (yes, 5) saved games, trying to get back into my career. That's roughly 4¾hrs of (pretty successful) game-play from last night totally wasted - and I still haven't found a save that'll load yet, might have to dump another three or four for all I know. I've read threads where people say they've played SH3 for years and never had a save fail to load! How do they DO it? I haven't updated my calculations yet, but on this re-install (new machine) I at about 33% failure-rate for my saves. It's also taking anything up to an hour to get playing as I work my way backwards one save at a time to find one that isn't corrupted. Give me strength! Ok, whinge over and time to try another saved game.

Ok, that's it. Career terminated as a waste of time and effort. It'll be faster to simply start a new one. Two more saves failed, that's 50% of the saves in that mission (#11).

That's rough matey....but TBH you've obviously got conflict issues based within your installation which are obviously going to replicate themselves in the future.

My advice would be to perform a new fresh installation after removing your present one using the disc option and performing a thorough registry clean.

You should also delete the SH3 folder in C\MyDocs (that is where your corrupt saves are stored).

I can assure you the above is not as daunting as it may appear.....I have performed the above on more occasions than I care to remember.

@Brag.

I have the same problems. Lost saved games and these are the mods that are installed:

Thomsens Ships V4.1
GWX - Main movie - 'Das Boot'
LifeBoats&Debris_v4
GWX - Merged Campaign
GWX - Bearded faces
GWX - Das Boot Clothes
GWX - No Bell Ring
OLC 'Gold' MkII ~ Option 3 ~ Environment with EDE and GUI
Unofficial_rockets_fix_GWX3.0
OLC's Modified Searchlight Beams for GWX3
Internal U-Boat Sound Effect
Water Droplet Mod
Flags_enlighten
Pascal_Port_People
WBs Mission Orders Lite

There are no conflicts mentioned by JSGME.

It's really frustrating to loose all the patrols you've done.

I suppose the following:

1. Never save when submerged. Only surfaced!
2. Never save when enemy is in your sight.
3. Probably NEVER save over an existed save. (over write it).

Am I right?

JimBuna is correct - been there. There is a corruption somewhere caused most likely by the PC. Save your campaign folder then do a clean uninstall of the sim and all folders, then install the sim and one by one your mods and campaign folder and files.

Always the disc option Mike....the add/remove almost always leaves residual files (in some instances I have even seen the software folder left....only a few odds and ends within it I admit, but enough to cause future problems).

The biggie is the registry clean....you'd be amazed how sometimes there are literally hundreds of lines of code left in the pooter.

I use RegVac personally:

I believe there is a free trial version.

KeybdFlyer, I feel for you. I bought SH3 the day it was released, before I even had a computer that would run it. In that four-and-a-half years I have:

1) Never finished a career - not due to dying but due to:

2) Reloaded the game at least once per month, because I've:

3) Started a new career every time a new mod came along that affected things I wanted to see at the start of my career, starting with the Harbor Traffic mod and ending with the new Kiel Bridge mods.

4) Killed my install due to testing new mods that couldn't be loaded with JSGME.

Brother, I feel your pain, but can give you no sympathy since you haven't yet come close to matching my troubles.

Yep, there is a trial version of RegVac, I'll probably be d/l that later... though the reason I'll be doing that is slightly amusing. I d/l VLC player earlier, installed and check-marked the "Context Menu" option at install. Right-clicked on a .ogg file but saw no context entry. "Hmm", I thought, "Must've forgotten to check that option." So, finding no preference choice (obviously) to add it, I uninstalled & re-installed ensuring I'd checked it this time. All fine, yes? No. lol. Now I have TWO sets of context menu entries to choose from! Apparently the software needs a re-boot to apply it's options (but doesn't tell you it needs that) and doesn't remove all its registry entries at uninstallation. Anyway - I've managed to remove said menu entries, but think I'll d/l RegVac or similar to make life easier next time!

Sometimes I wish I was half as clever as I think I am, 'cause then I'd be clever enough to realise I'm not clever enough to mess around with computers!

@Sailor Steve Ha ha ha - yes, the trials & tribulations of maintaining SH3! I also bought SH3 right after release and have also never finished a career, for very similar reasons too; though more usually involving computers that seem to revel in going "boom" just as I'm getting the hang of some piece of software or other. I'm sure you know the old maxim re. "sympathy" and its location in the dictionary, so I feel no loss for the lack of it!
