HI folks.
I'm in the WaW3 campaign, serving with the 29th Flotilla in 1944. My last patrol with them finished on the 13th March, and I sat out the flotilla's final patrol before it was disbanded. We are now reforming as the 33rd Flotilla at Flensburg, with the option of the Type XXI, and intend to start out with a training patrol on 1st September 1944. I've been given some alterations to make to my flotilla.cfg, but the result is that while the 33rd Flotilla becomes available on the transfer screen on June 3rd 1944, once 'transfer' is clicked, the new base is described as 'null' and the game locks up. If I do the transfer late in August ( as opposed to March ), it all works fine, but then the 150 days commissioning time for the Type XXI pushes the date right through to the end of the year, too late for that training patrol which starts on September 1st. We are working on this at the WaW forums, but if anyone has any hints, tips or experiences, it would be most gratefully recieved. To recap, I wish to transfer to the 33rd Flotilla around March 1944 and take a Type XXI or if that is not possible, transfer later in the year but reduce the time taken to commission the boat so that I can sail on September 1st 1944. Here is the 33rd Flotilla section my flotilla.cfg as it stands with NYGM 3.0. Flotilla7=909 TO7=944 NbStartingDate7=2 NbDate7=2 Emblem7=data/Emblems/SubEmblems/Flotillas/33rd flotilla.tga NbBases7=1 Base7_0=759;flensburg Date7_0_0=1944 Month7_0_0=7 Date7_0_1=1945 Month7_0_1=5 DeparturePointLong7_0=1133818.000000 DeparturePointLat7_0=6577824.000000 Heading7_0=314.727997 NbUboats7=2 Uboat7_0=1 Uboat7_1=2 I also use SH3 Commander, by the way. |

The problem is that the Type XXI isn't available to choose as my boat. All the others are there, VIIC/41, IXC, IXD2...but not the XXI. If I can bring the availability date forward, and edit the commissioning time, I'll be there! Thanks Wooly, its a new avenue of investigation. EDIT: Have been into C:\Program Files\SH3 Commander\Cfg\u-boat availability.txt and edited the following from [SUBMARINE3] 906_NbVersion=1 906_Version0=0 ; XIX 906_Name0=XXI 906_Month0=7 906_Year0=1944 906_DaysSpentInBase=259 to [SUBMARINE3] 906_NbVersion=1 906_Version0=0 ; XXI 906_Name0=XXI 906_Month0=1 906_Year0=1944 906_DaysSpentInBase=259 No effect whatsoever...the Type XXI still isn't available. To get a Type XXI U-boat in July 1944 in NYGM 3.0 (or 3.1), do the following:
1. Create in your mods folder a file called 'EarlyXXI', and create in it a sub-folder called 'data', and in the sub-folder create another sub-folder called ''Cfg'. 2. Copy from your NYGM set-up these two files into your new folder 'mods\EarlyXXI\data\Cfg': basic.cfg and flotilla.cfg. Make the following changes to each file in your EarlyXXI folder: (You need to change ONLY the lines marked 'Early XXI', a total of just three in all.) For file basic.cfg: [SUBMARINE3] NrMinOff=4 NrMaxOff=6 NrMinPO=14 NrMaxPO=24 NrMinSeamen=26 NrMaxSeamen=34 NbVersion=1 Version0=0 ; XXI Name0=XXI Month0=7 Year0=1944 DaysSpentInBase=1;;150 ;259 ;; 1 for Early XXI For file flotilla.cfg: Flotilla7=909 TO7=944 NbStartingDate7=2 NbDate7=2 Emblem7=data/Emblems/SubEmblems/Flotillas/33rd flotilla.tga NbBases7=1 Base7_0=759;flensburg Date7_0_0=1944 Month7_0_0=7 Date7_0_1=1945 Month7_0_1=5 DeparturePointLong7_0=1133818.000000 DeparturePointLat7_0=6577824.000000 Heading7_0=314.727997 NbUboats7=2 Uboat7_0=1 Uboat7_1=2 Date70=1944 Month70=7 Starting70=Yes TypeSub70=3; VIIC/41 ;; EarlyXXI VersionSub70=0;; 2 ;; EarlyXXI iNbName70=3 Now activate your new mod 'EarlyXXI' with JSGME, *after* all other mods. Do NOT use SH3Commander, which complicates things. You will now be assigned a Type XXI U-boat in the 33rd Flotilla as soon as you start a new career, selecting 1944 and 33rd Flotilla. I've tested it, it works fine. Do NOT activate the FuMB37NYGMXXIII mod supplied with NYGM, because it turns the XXI boat into a XXIII boat, and will probably cause a crash. Stiebler.

Steibler, sorry, I completely missed this reply, and I do apologise for not responding.
I have managed to get to the 33rd with a XXI by making the alterations to those two cfg files directly ( rather than making them mods that are then applied using JSGME ). Did that before reading your reply, but the result is the same. I now have a problem with damage to the boat as the patrol starts alongside the jetty in Flensburg. I get the message that the radar , radar antenna and main pump are destroyed, the radar being the FuMO-64, the only one available for the Type XXI. Also, the radar warning device is destroyed if I fit the snorkel mounted FuMB-391. The only radar warning device that survives the start of the patrol is the FuMB-7 Naxos. I'm currently searching the forums for this, do you know of a fix ? And what is the impact on the game of 'main pump destroyed' ? Diving and surfacing times maybe ? Thanks for any help...and once again, apologies for not responding earlier. Last edited by Kurt Lange; 11-15-08 at 11:54 AM. |

@Kurt Lange,
There seems to be a problem with some of your files, if you are suffering the problems you report. For example, the 'Main Pump Destroyed' problem for the XXI was fixed in NYGM 3.0 (I think), or definitely by 3.1 (current version). (I don't think 'main pump destroyed' has any noticeable effect on the XXI, incidentally.) As I've already said, I've tested the XXI with the changes I recommended above, and it works fine, with no error messages. Try un-installing NYGM 3.0 (or 3.1, whichever you have) and NYGM 2.5 with JSGME, then reinstall both. DO NOT install any other mods. I've noticed that virtually all the troubles that users report with NYGM are actually due to the presence of other peoples' mods, which may or may not work with NYGM. If you still have troubles, it seems like you need a complete new installation of SH3 (+patch 1.4b, + NYGM 2.5 + NYGM 3.1). Before you do that, be sure to rename your folder My Documents\SH3 to something else first. I would strongly advise that you do not make changes to original files, as you say you have been doing, because this confuses the JSGME file restoration process (altered files will not be replaced with original files), and results ultimately in a muddle of temporary fixes. Make sure that everything works properly *before* you re-introduce SH3Commander (which is a recommended mod for NYGM, but people often don't use it properly). When you do reinstate SH3Commander, be sure to copy across the special NYGM cfg files from the NYGM folder (of SH3Commander) into the Sh3COmmander cfg folder. (Don't forget that NYGM's SH3Patrol has all the important functionality of SH3Commander, and is much simpler to use.) Do not make any attempt to add a schnorchel rwr to the XXI - it displaces the radar, as you have found. You should be able to mount a Tunis radar to the boat, not to the schnorchel head. I hope that resolves your problems. Good luck! Stiebler.

Thanks hugely, Stiebler. You've passed on some very important information there, things I didn't realize or didn't think about, particularly the consequences of alterating original files.
Also didn't know that the schnorkel-mounted rwr displaces the radar...in all the discusssion of this glitch, thats the first time I've been told that! Anyway, I've got the day off, so I think I might just go for the clean install and then do everything via JSGME. Thanks once again, you have been very helpful. ![]() |

Stiebler, got NYGM 3.1 installed on a new SH3 1.4 installation, created the 'EarlyXXI' mod folder as per your instructions, and all works as advertised. The FuMO-64 radar and FuMB-26 'Tunis' RWR are fitted, no 'destroyed' messages for radar, antenna or main pump. All done with JSGME of course, and without yet using SH3 Commander
After getting it to that point, I decided to try adding in Anvart's RadSonDF_NYGM23_v1_2 to see if I could get the radio DF loop to rise out of its housing and start rotating, but that brings back the three destroyed equipment messages, so I disabled it again. Is there a newer version of this mod, compatible with NYGM 3.1 ? Maybe the 'EarlyXXI' mod renders it unuseable Anyway, now to try reintroducing SH3 Commander. ![]() EDIT: The DF loop is operating fine now, without the RadSon mod. And its rotating back and forth like it should do, instead of constantly in one direction like it did before. SH3 Commander is working too, and I have my old crew from the 29th Flotilla. Thanks again Stiebler! Thats at least a couple of pints I owe you. Last edited by Kurt Lange; 11-16-08 at 03:55 PM. |
