Q Ship?

U-123
14:07hrs. 20 October 1940 (GWX 2.1)
15 miles south of Cape Sao Vicente
Light seas.

While on the surface, we sighted a large British freighter (black hull, white superstructure). 3,000 meters away.

We commenced a dive for a torpedo attack. 2 artillery shells flew overhead and hit long.

We got into attack position and fired one torpedo from 800 meters. The torpedo hit right under the foremast and the ship began to loose speed and to sink.

Further inspection did not reveal any guns on the ship.

Was this a Q ship with hidden guns? :hmm:

Was it an Empire-type freighter by any chance? I had a scary contest with one of those in August 1940, west of Gib. He opened-up on me at 14,000m and pretty soon got my range. I got him in the end with a torpedo at 600m but it was a heck of a run-in!

It probably was that merchant, Balz torpedoed in the "Execusion" to be the audience. Maybe they had changed it's name to "Revenge" or "Balz hunter"

I think British Mater recognize your U-Boot and he fire salvo of honour to The Great Heroe Of Kriegsmarine, Balz.
Now seriously, I only know Light Merchant as Q-Ship. Another game's surprise? :hmm:

Not a Q ship then

Grosser Frachter = Large Merchant. The Q ships were modelled as Small Coastal Freighters.

Some of the Community mod ships are armed from the outset of hostilities.

I think Kapt. Balz had one too many cognacs with Bernard before leaving port. Possibly his tea cozy fell in front of his eyes making identifying any ship damn near impossible.................:rotfl::rotfl:
