Default That was fun!

Feb 1940

Intercepted a small convoy... perhaps 4 columns with 5 ships per column. and I noticed one escort leading the bunch... a single black swan.

We stalked them for most of the day from long range and closed in at sunset, then waited until 2100 hours until I conducted a night surface attack claiming a cyclops, and two medium tankers.

the Black swan closed in and depth charged me until about 0400 hours!!!

I gave him the slip every time, thank god it was 1940!

but here is where it gets interesting.

I monitored him on hydrophones as he broke off his attack against me and rushed back to the convoy. then he abruptly slowed down and started zig zagging.

one problem for Mr. Black Swan... HE COULDNT FIND THE DAMNED CONVOY :rotfl:

the poor bastard wolf hound was completely lost from the flock of sheep!!!

as he searched in vain about 100 KM north of his covoy, i stalked in on them again making contact on this now completely NAKED convoy and surfaced and i proceeded to cut their guts out!!!

We cut them to pieces!!! it was a slaughter.

before he could appear on the horizon in an apparent attempt to respond to mayday calls we managed to sink all but 3 of the ships in the convoy.

if i were that Black Swan Skipper i would set course for some small island never to be seen or heard from again!!!

i wish i could have been a fly on the wall when he had to march into his CO's office and perform the rug dance to end all rug dances!!!

That sounded like fun....

Completely opposite of what happened to me last night. New boat, U-100 out on its first patrol finds a convoy, 3 times I tried to get close, doing what I always do without being heard, except this time I was spotted, heard or nearly run over due to my impatience. Finally managed to sink one ship before deciding to leave, the escorts in this convoy seemed to be alot more capable then normal for 1940?

So far U-100 hasnt been a very lucky boat, or perhaps we were lucky, we made it back to base after all.

I didnt either... at first i thought he was slowing down to come back for more... but he started a search pattern of zig zags and im like "What is this joker doing? doesnt he know his convoy went that-a-way?!"

i think what happened is... you know how a whole convoy will turn ever few hours?

i think they initiated one of those turns just minutes after my attack... so their base course changed by about 60 - 70 degrees, and his base course didnt change because he was attacking me.

so... when the attack ended, he returned to his base course which was by now - 4 hours later - substantially different from the base course of the convoy.

In the time it took me to catch up to the convoy, the confused escort was now about 100+ KM from the convoy he should have been escorting!

:rotfl:all i can come up with. :hmm:
