What usually happens next (well in my experiences anyway) is they'll grab you by the hand with the friendly intention of shaking said hand.

Watch their reaction when they realise it is soaking wet, weigh up where you have just been and come to the obviously wrong conclusion about what the wet substance is constituted of.
