Country of residence: Texas
![]() Nationality: Texan:rotfl: Compass Results: Economic Right, Social Libertarian Personal political views: See sig you include yourself in a political party? Libertarian War in Iraq: Unjustified, but now that we are there, morally justified. Don't look at me like that, would you condone genocide? Never forget? Ya, no one gives a crap about the Kurds because there is no movie about them. Let's just split the whole damn country into three seperate nations. It worked in the Balkans. Legalizing Marijuana: Legalize all drugs. I don't feel like paying the DEA tens of billions to NOT keep drugs out of the country. Plus, it promotes guiltless social darwinism and frees up much of the prison budget. Of course, I doubt your employer would approve of your drug use. Abortion: Conditional pro-choice Gun Control: Limited only to non-citizens and felons or mentally unstable. Required training/aptitude testing for concealed-carry. No gun-free zones. Powers of central authority: Military protection from militarist enemies foreign and domestic, tariffs (limited and equal), establishing a currency and not devaluing it by printing more of it to pay bills (gold standard?), state and local government oversight, with regards to individual freedoms, promoting national awareness of social issues by advertising ONLY, and to serve as a forum for the independent states of the United States of America to make policy in the national interest with the express consent of the people without imposing legislation of any kind on U.S. citizens. We have states for that. European Union: Potentially the best of mankind, in actuality, something far short of that. Economic freedom is to be championed, but a common culture is far, far over the horizon. Most likely to dissolve and bankrupt itself. Gay marriage/adoption:Marriage yes, as long as both girls are hot ![]() Death penalty: No. The state is incompetent and inefficient in everything it does. Why let it trade in human currency? Prison labor FTW. If a convict is exonerated, he can be rewarded a nice sum for his efforts and also in compensation for his wrongful conviction. 120,000 dollars a year seems about right. Depends on the case and how misguided the conviction was. Probably more, maybe less. Religion in schools: WTF? What does the state or politics have to do with schools? Oh, I forgot, somehow they run them. Would you trust the state with your money? No? Then why trust them with your childrens' education? Private schooling, competion and consumer choice FTW. Even more efficient, if you can afford to have a parent stay at home, is private schooling. The maxim should be Seperation of Church, State, and education. The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world. Never let just one hand rock that cradle. edit-spaced for your convenience

Country of residence: GER
Nationality: GER Compass Results: Economic Left/Right, Social Libertarian/Authoritan: I don't agree with the scaling of that model. I am uniting all four poles in my thinking, sometimes in their extremes - it depends on the issue being focussed on Personal political views: democracy works only up to a given size of a community, and beyond that detoriates in effectiveness. Communities of a large scale are governed more efficiently by feudal structures. both democracy and feudal system are vulnerable to corruption and abuse by those in power. both do not free you from the need of having good men available for posts and offices. Elections are no guarantee for competence and honesty. Do you include yourself in a political party?: Today: unimaginable. In my past: for a very short while - near the end and short after school (conservative youth organization) War in Iraq: Against. No war of need, but a war of choice. Counterproductive in it's results. In other words: stupid. Legalizing Marijuana: there are pro's and con's. Undecided, but slightly against it. Abortion: leave the decision to the individual case's protagonists, and keep your curious little nose out of businesses that are not yours Gun Control: yes. but if you want to battle violent crime by that alone, you will fail. So: more is needed than just gun control, it is just one necessary step. Powers of central authority: a necessary but potentially harmful evil. where there is power centralised, there is growing corruption of power. You cannot evade it, but you can control the speed of it's distortion. Don't trust it blindly, and countercontrol it. European Union: as it once was meant: pro; but like it now is being enforced and what it is heading for: contra Gay marriage/adoption: strictly against. the institution of heterosexual ordinary families must be kept in noticable higher esteem by the community, for reasons of vital self-interests of the community. Death penalty: against. the term is a logical contradiction in itself. By this I do not exclude the legal killing of certain types of major criminals who could continue to order crimes from within prison. but these are special cases, not representing any rule by routine. Religion in schools: strictly against. the state has the duty to guarantee that religion and state's institutions and schools are kept strictly separate. I am strictly secular. Don't pose a problem to me, and you don't get a problem with me. Bother me with your oh so precious religion, and I bite with force and without further warning. I'm simply not interested in your religion and your scritpures or anyone else's, and I despise both dogma and scripture. If you expect me needing to take note of your religious practicing, expect serious trouble with me. Keep thy religion to thyself, and at home.

Country of residence: Germany
Nationality: german Compass Results: Economic Left/Right -6,38, Social Libertarian/Authoritan 0,00 Personal political views: closet commie sometimes, wanting the Kaiser back on other days. Do you include yourself in a political party? I'm still in the SPD, though I've been considering to quit for about 8 years now War in Iraq: against Legalizing Marijuana: Legalize it. Everybody smokes it anyway and bans that are not enforced undermine authority. So either put every pothead to jail or legalize it totally. Abortion: only if medically necessary or in other extreme cases (rape maybe) Gun Control: pro. I know enough morons I would never want to have guns, including myself ![]() Powers of central authority: pro. Some distribution of authority is good, but german drove that too far. European Union: pro, its not perfect but its a start. We won't get a better union with our current crop of politicians so we might as well try this one. Transfering european infighting from the battlefields to Brussels corridors is a huge step anyway. Gay marriage/adoption: marriage yes, adoption no. They can be good parents but school will be living hell for those kids. Death penalty: the state should have that possibility as ultima ratio Religion in schools: yes, but in a neutral way, no preaching

Economic Left/Right: -0.12
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.87 ![]() Country of residence: United States of America. Nationality: American (English and German descent). Compass Results: See above. Personal political views: Jeffersonian/Madisonian - we create government specifically to protect our rights, and laws specifically to protect ourselves from others. Do you include yourself in a political party?: Never. War in Iraq: A big mistake; but I don't hold with those who assign ulterior motives to those who started it. Legalizing Marijuana: Legalize it. Prohibition never works. Abortion: Her choice, not mine. Gun Control: My choice, not yours. Powers of central authority: Should be limited to dealing with other powers. European Union: No opinion. Gay marriage/adoption: Sure. I may not like it, but then I don't have to. Death penalty: Yes. But be very, very sure that you have the right person. Religion in schools: Absolutely not, except for comparative religion studies. If your religion can be taught in a public school as valid, why can Otumbu's or Hiratomi's? This includes teaching atheism as 'real'. [edit] Interesting. I took it yesterday, but didn't get it posted correctly. I must have answered one question differently today, because then I was just a little to the 'right' of the vertical line, and now I'm just a little to the 'left'.

![]() ![]() Country of residence: United Kingdom Nationality: British Compass Results: Economic Left/Right:-8.50 Social Libertarian/Authoritan:-6.41 Personal political views: Generally left-wing; economic inequality causes many of society's problems. Do you include yourself in a political party? Not really, if I did I'd have to tow a party line or at least defend it. If I had to be a memeber of a political party I would say that the Labour Party would be closest to my political convictions. War in Iraq: Against; ill thought out and flawed adventurism (into which the UK was dragged - thanks Tony ![]() ![]() Legalizing Marijuana: The prohibition of soft drugs is ineffective and expensive, besides two of the most dangerous drugs are already legal so why not cannabis? Abortion: Pro Choice. Gun Control: Pro control. Note thats control not ban. There are many people that I am glad do not have easy access to firearms, some of them live just 5 minutes down the road from me! Allowing people to carry concealed weapons in public places is madness. Powers of central authority: Government can, and does have a positive impact at times, improving the lives of the people it governs but it has to be transparent and accountable for its actions. Government has to have its limits and regulation though, laws are there as much to protect the individual from the abuse of government power as they are to protect citizens from eachother. European Union: Pro European. I think Europe's best interests and best chance of securing a decent future for itself lie in political and economic union. If Europe dosen't then it may find itself over looked in future world politics. Thats not to say that the EU is perfect; it has many problems that need to be solved. If you want and example of a highly successful political/economic union then look no further than the USA. Gay marriage/adoption: I can see no persuasive argument as to why gay people should be denied the right to marriage. As to adoption, I have seen many poor straight parents, I'm sure there are many gay couples who can provide a caring environment for a child to be brought up in. Death penalty: Against; for a number of reasons miscariages of justice being a major one, I'd rather 100 guilty men walk free than 1 innocent man be punnished for something he had not commited. Plus it would seem to run counter to notions of rehabilitation or redemption in society. Religion in schools: No, places of education are no place for religous dogma or indoctrination, parents are free to do that at home if they wish.

![]() ![]() Country of residence: USA Nationality: US Compass Results: See above, but probably depends on what day I take the test Personal political views: Hate politics, think the country should be run by people whose lives depend on whether they do the right thing or not Do you include yourself in a political party? Anarchist party War in Iraq: Like many who won't admit it now, was in favor of it. Saw the joy in the people's faces as the statues of Sadaam were toppled. Now, just want Iraq to return to being a sovereign nation without the need for "occupying" forces. Legalizing Marijuana: If alcohol is legal, pot should be, too. Abortion: Depends on the circumstances, overall against. Gun Control: Definitely, I believe that everyone who has a gun should have good control of it and everyone should have a gun (except of course for the Looney-Tunes [including politicians] and felons) Powers of central authority: Protection of the union from outside sources, minimal social benefits European Union: Yes, everyone should have sex Gay marriage/adoption: Opposed, but it's inevitable Death penalty: Only in cases of absolutely no chance of innocence (for example Brian Nichols courthouse shootings in Atlanta) or in the case of politicians not doing the right thing Religion in schools: Shouldn't be taught in school. There's enough to learn there. |

Country of residence: United States
Nationality: Terran. I was born on earth, just like the rest of you. I'm no better or different than any other Terran. Compass Results: Didn't agree with the results. I judge each situation based on it's own merits, not by association. Personal political views: Live and let live. Do you include yourself in a political party? Only if it has an open bar. I don't align with any party, I align with good ole fashioned common sense and decency. War in Iraq: I don't agree with any war. I agree to fight to stop a war, but never start one. Legalizing Marijuana: All drugs should be leagalized, mass manufactured by governments and distributed freely to anyone who wants them. Give all the addicts all the drugs they want. Let Darwin sort them out, nature will find a way to deal with them. Abortion: Choice. Gun Control: I'll control mine if you control yours. I do think you need training, qualification, and certification to own and carry one. Criminals, mentally unstable people, or people with post counts above 5,000 should not be allowed to have weapons. Powers of central authority: Limited to the protection of civil rights, equally for everyone. European Union: It should be left to the people to decide, not the governments. Individuals should join the EU, at the same time they give up citizenship of the country they are in and become an EU citizen. Gay marriage/adoption: Tolerance. It should not be up to the state to define a union, it should be left to the individual. Death penalty: No. (Previous yes, but after seeing all the overturned convictions from DNA testing, the crriminal justice system has proven mistakes can/will be made. You can't put anyone to death if there is any chance of error in a conviction) Religion in schools: Theology, yes. Specific endorsement, no. |

I am also a huge advocate that they should provide universal healthcare. European Union: So long as it improves their economies, all the better. Gay marriage/adoption: Gays absolutely should be able to get married and have children. Death penalty: Fry the suckers !
