Happy Accidents.....

Oops....I meant to do that.

That seems to be the theme for my latest patrol in my trusty S-36.

EVENT 1

SO there I am in the middle of the Java Sea....or Jawa Sea as the map seems to indicate waiting for targets.

(In sugar boats with their slow speed hunting is more a matter of waiting for targets to come to you rather than all that silly chasing them about.)

Im in luck...A heavy cruiser, Mogami, and its escorts appear on the horizon heading in my direction.

Despite the weird looksI get from my crew in tackling such a warship heavy formation in shallow waters and a pigboat, I order the dive.

Im new to the TDC but manage to set up a fairly good solution and lob a volley of all four tubes at the Mogami.....

......Oops...Just as I launch the last tube I see this HUGE bow cross my vision and I rapidly spin the zoom out dial, just in time to see three of my torps take out a Light Cruiser...Kuma class, while the last one passes underneath to take out a Fubuki just on the other side of her.

Amidst the shaking of unexpected explosions barely 400 yards aay I nervously look around the control room and say 'oops....I meant to do that'

EVENT 2

Same patrol about six days later Im South of the Phillipines once again putting along at a blistering 7 knots when another column of warships appears heading directly at me.

(At 7 kts if they aint heading right for you....forget it)

This time my target is a respectable Agano Class Light cruiser.

I again launch my full spread of four at about 1100 yards.

I swear...that cruiser twists and turns and almost does backflips to avoid those torps.....I felt like I was watchng Keanu Reeves dodge bullets in the Matrix.

Well just on the other side of the gymnastic Agano is another poor Fubuki who takes two on the chin and promptly splits in two.

Ummm....I meant to do that also.

They even gave me a medal and offered me a new boat for that (Im staying with my S-boat though)

And that's why they teach you to put a spread on those fish!!!

May be it's time for a "S-boat junkie" subforum. :hmm: Or a "time to let your S-boat go and move on to WWII" therapy group or something. Lots of S-boat addicts out there!

because it's just so pretty

just like the type II when you're wearing the german uniform

masochists aplenty, loving it when they can't intercept a target, when they take 2 days recharging batteries for 10 hours submerged cruising

*strokes his crappy little beauty* (no innuendo intended)

I love that full color shot.

A real beauty!

On a similar subject, Im reading CRASH DIVE...the story of S-5 that sank in 1920 and how the crew escaped after grueling circimstances.

A great read with some real cool photos of every compartment and descriptions on how the S-boats worked......(or sorta worked if they were in the mood)

The most efficient weapon the IJN has against me:
The ASW island!!
I think I ran onto small islands in 8000x TC half a dozen times allready, once after sinking 50000 tons.

Remember that small island just out of Wilhemshaven in SH3? I ended many an embarrassing career stranded on that.

:rotfl::rotfl: That is so true! I recently ran into one with my S-18 class sub. Luckily the old tub held together long enough for me to back off.
