Default S-class battery rechage times

Has anyone who's played in an S-class noticed that it can take about 4 or 5 days to recharge the sub's batteries if you've depleated them significantly and cruised submerged for 24 hours or so?

I'm assuming this is realistic yeah? because the larger fleet boats, their batteries are fully recharged in about 6 or 7 hours.

Cheers

As to what's realistic, I don't think any of them should take more that eight hours for a full recharge, but I admit I don't know this for sure.

yeah, they do take ages. If i'm going on a long patrol, i'll usually submerge and cruise at 1 knot until the batteries or air get down to 25%, then I surface. I submerge because its quite a good way to conserve fuel. But, taking 4 or 5 days game time for them to fully recharge can be seen as a handicap.

What if you suddeny are in a combat situation as need as much battery as possible for submerged maneuvers?

Submerging to save fuel is counter-productive because you will use more fuel recharging the batteries once you resurface than you saved while you were submerged. The only time I ever submerge to stretch fuel is when I'm low on fuel and close to getting back to base or to refuel. I'll then travel submerged until either battery or oxygen is in low supply and when I resurface, I'll switch off battery recharging.

The old S-Boats only had two engines so when you were recharging, you had one engine doing that and one driving the propulsion. If you notice, there is only one prop turning when recharging.

They sure take along time to recharge so I try my best not to run the batteries down to far.

Lets not forget that at the outbreak of WW2 that the S-boats were at least 20 years old. Just think of all the technalogical advances between then.

DT is correct here. We have to remember the submarine is a boat that has the ability to submerge for a time. With that in mind. Do not stay down any longer then you have to. I run the surface as much as possible. If you have to stay down, the race is not won by the swift. A steady 2 kts to conserve and reduce charge time when you are able to surface.
