1944 Cossaks, Schnellboote, Paratroopers

This newsreel 1944 shows an interesting collage:

1.-Cossak cavalry (Russian) fighting on the German side
2.-Schnellboote
3.-Paratroopers

If interested in Russians fighting on the German side.

search for: Vlasov, ROA, Cossak cavalry.

The fate of the Cossacks and the Cossack people before and after the war is very sad.

Betrayal of the Cossacks

It's good to see the culture flourishing in modern Russia tho.

Yes! The revival of the Cossak culture is rather amazing. When I researched the status of the Cossaks to write Kingmaker, I was impressed. I haven't looked at it for a few years, 'til about a week ago. What surprised me was to see White Army insignia on the uniforms. Their songs are openly anti Bolshevik and pro Monarchist. They talk about being the cultural bridge of present day Russia with it's past.

Any people so tightly knitt that they become a racial/ethnic group despite coming from
all over the Eastern world and only being around a few hundred years are guaranteed
to be around for a long time yet.

Any idea what the Ukrainian Jewish Cossacks did in the war?

I have only learned about them when looking at the Weekipedia about Lienz.
I have met one Jew who had served in the ROA, I believe he came from the Don Region.

Interesting that you bring that up b/c I just read a book on the fall of Berlin that discussed these units. Also mentioned Vlasov's fate. Not pleasant in the least.
