Default Why can't I have a Type IX?

I run GWX 2.1 with the latest version of Commander. The game has run pretty well given that I am towards the low end of system requirements. (Fortunately, I do have 2 GB of memory).

BUT,

I recently began trying to start careers using a Type IX boat. Every single time I get to the final stage of the game loading - I can even see the dials on the screen - the game crashes.

I go back and try again. Same thing. I try to start a career using a Type II or a Type VIII. No problem. Only with a Type IX does this happen.

I have even tried single missions in a Type IX. Same thing.

Anybody know what's up?

That's disturbing, because once you see the dials, it seemed one was safe.

That's why it is so frustrating. You are almost there but not quite.

Take it as a message from the Submarine gods

You belong in a type VIIc

It is most disheartening when you order "Crash dive" in a Type IX and a calender pops up asking you what day you want to schedule the dive.

You will get used to, when in a Type IX, when you order left full rudder that the ship's cook offers to start cooking your dinner and you know you will be done eating before you can turn 180 degrees

It is embarrassing, when avoiding depth charges in a Type IX, you find the enemy ship turning tighter than you are... and you find out that the target ship is a C3 Cargo ship

Stay with the Type VII. It is not the size of your boat, but how well you can maneuver it that counts

snicker

I'll take that advice! I guess I'll have to clear out some extra space for supplies to get the crew to New York harbor. Maybe we can put ashore on Block Island or something!

Ah well, yeah

If you are going to take an American cruise then the extra fuel on the Type IX comes in handy. Of course you can always keep the VII and take the small realism hit by selecting unlimited fuel.

But yeah, the long trips are a lot easier in the hog.
