does removing the deck gun have any advantages in terms of manoeuvrability? i read somewhere that underwater performance increased, does the game reflect this?
i am contemplating spending the 1k renown on the VIIC/3 tower, get a 37mm or even quad 20mm on it to replace my gunnery option against crippled ships, if that is at all possible in gwx 2.0 any thoughts?

I don't think removing the deck gun helps any, but I may be wrong. I don't usually upgrade any guns especially flak guns since they become useless later on, unless you're a glutten for punishment.

I timed last night the time it took from the alarm to full submersion with and without the deck gun. Without the deckgun was about 0.5-0.7 faster, barely noticeable. No idea on the underwater performance, batteries are one of the items I always upgrade so never seem to run out of battery power, usually air will run out first.
Flak guns are only really good to shoot down the first wave of planes so they don't keep straffing you. Once you've cleared the skies you really need to dive and change course, there's a 100% chance that more planes will be sent to your last position to hunt you down. Once the double twin 2 cm guns are available they can put up an enormous amount of flak to give you a decent chance to take out the planes before they get a chance to dive bomb you. |

Not really noticed myself. But I can't live without my deck gun, as its my prefered method to shoot lone merchants

keep in mind that some late war merchants only have stern mounted guns or bow mounted guns... if you can maneuver your boat into the right position their guns are quite useless as they cant shoot through their own ship to hit you.
once they start zig zagging this becomes a tricky strategy. my opinion on deck guns: its better to not need a deck gun and have it than it is to need one and not have it. ![]()

It won't make any difference in game performance. So it is better to keep it
