Hooray at last! but purpose?

After spending almost over a week getting my 'War Machine' up to speed I finally got stuck into my first patrol with GWX 2.1 dated 01 August 1939, hold on me thinks..... war didn't start until Sept 39, what gives, i can't do diddly till then. I am obviously missing the obvious (whoops bad grammar) but why 01 August 1939? Someone please stop this misery. Many thanks, Herr Trigger.

in August 1939, 14 U-Boats were dispatched to the Atlantic Ocean West of Great Britain and into the North Sea as the outbreak of war was considered almost unavoidable... and German leadership wanted to be ready to strike at a moments notice.

2 reasons really

The first wave of uboats were sent out from the 18th August onwards so would be in the right place IF war with Britain broke out

If you are starting in the 1st or 2nd flotillas run a 5 day shakedown cruise or go sigtseeing to Dover etc as some have
Dock at home on the 4th\5th and you will start your second patrol on the 24th\25th August
Ready to be on station by the 3rd Sept

Second reason less of a reason more of a bonus
As you sink nothing on your first patrol you cant lose renown due to the first patrol\upgrade anything bug so on your second patrol when you hopefully do sink something all is good

If using SH3commander set days in base to 20 for the first patrol
Also if using SH3commander you can start in Sept if you wish

On the other hand, pick the 7th (like I do/did) and lose renown for anything you sink

Thanks for the responses, I know it was a dumbass question and in R-L there would be shakedown and all but i thought it kinda strange being sent off on patrol and then being penalised for any kills, all i'm doing now is sending in contact reports and BDU sends message back 'Press the Attack' ! yeah right, then lose any renown, besides, all I've seen so far is German and Spanish Cargo vessels. I shall do it but will cut it short for a spot of shoreleave before the fireworks begin.

Not really; you just came along late. Ever since the original Grey Wolves we've been looking at the information screens while waiting for the game to load, and seeing that they sent 14 u-boats to patrol on August 19 (or was it 19 boats on the 14th?), and wishing we could be on station at war's start. Somebody finally decided to do something about it, but the game will only let the first patrol start on the first of the month.

I once even went at flank speed all the way from Wilhelmshaven to the Atlantic at flank speed, telling myself that I probably would have burned that much fuel patrolling from August 19 to September 3.:rotfl:

I did some sight seeing along the Channel ports and rafted up to the Southampton in Dover. It was fun .
