Default Nailed the Aquitania!

Having been sent on multiple wild goose chases by Bdu they have finally pulled an intelligence coup!

At 0430 on 7 May 43 I was cruising my assigned grid in the Med and came across the HMT Aquitania in grid CH 9361. She was steaming east extremely close to a British Task Force of a Southampton Class, Black Swan and River. I didn't check my first intercept information, assumed the Aquitania was with the Task Force and chased blindly after the Task Force.

I duelled for a while with the River and Black Swan and finally managed to sink all three warships. Being resigned to a personal trip to see Der Fuhrer to explain how I'd let the Aquitania get away, I wasn't too excited when my hydrophone operator reported a ship. I was expecting a merchant or some other small prize when the Aquitania come into view. I launched a salvo of two on a hasty bearing and hit once in the stern, sinking her in grid CJ 7427.

I'm still expecting the trip to the Fuhrer, but this time for tea and medals!

Bump for an old thread. I ran across the Aquitania for the first time today. Dec. 1942, just southwest of the tip of Ireland, heading west at 9 kts unescorted. I was almost disappointed that it went down after the first hit, because I could have used the other 3 torps . . .

. . . when I ran into another Aquitania a few days later, in a small convoy heading south along the west coast of Ireland. This one was limping along at 4 kts and sitting low in the water; fortunately it also went down after one hit. The escorting destroyers were not happy.

So, a 124,000 ton patrol in GWX with 90,000 tons of it being Aquitania

Sink her with Deck Gun west of cape town with my VIIB while on my way to the Indian Ocean. (I had only one tail torp left at that point). Have to dive soon after when air cover show up.

She is with another passenger/cargo ship and one escort.
