Default devs, will these problems ever be fixed?

As of 1.5, we still have:
  • Gauge textures in the Gato control room that are missing
  • Gauge textures in every interior that are mapped either backwards or upside-down
  • Indicator needles that don't work right.
  • A PPI display without all the bearing lines (http://usscobia.com/P2050014.jpg?%22)
  • A CE who, for some reason, can't utter a proper "rudder amidships" command
Will these things ever be resolved before official development on SH4 is closed for good?

Luke,

I can't answer the question, but most of these look to be graphical issues, so I suspect (based on Ubi's past) that they will leave those to be modded into correction while working on hardcoded issues - like a guage that won't work for example. Most graphical errors have been fixed by some very talented modders as you know, so I suspect this will be the same.

it would be cool if these issues were fixed but....

If this is our list of complaints for V15 then we should be very thankful. Especially considering what this game looked like one year ago (almost to the day)

It's still an issue of poor workmanship and not testing things correctly. I was part of the 3d modeling community for IL-2 Sturmovik, and trust me, these types of things were not tolerated at all. Yet, a year later, here they still are...

Not poor workmanship but some fine tuning maybe? 1.5 added a lot ... Thanks!

Here is Truk in stock SH4 ver 1.5 (at approx 7N, 152E) ... Looking good, just need the reefs surrounding it and the IJN Naval Base to be complete ;-)

Happy Hunting!

No, I'm not. Would you tolerate that type of thing to last that long in a game you've developed, this far along in the game's life cycle?

Here we go again: "it's just a game, who cares if these bugs have been around since forever!"

So, the standard would suddenly change if wasn't a game? Do explain that logic to me.

You're right, Luke, those bugs should have been fixed.

ATR, you're right too: if these were the bugs of the 1.0 version, then SH4 would have sold better than Crysis.

"- But they can't be both right.
- You're right too."

If you mean a couple of broken guages and a botched sound file, yes.

It's real simple. Games don't cause real world problems (i.e. screwed up bank accounts, lost important documents, etc.). If the game isn't perfect, it's not going to ruin anyones life.

On the other hand, opertaing systems can foul your life up big time, and they aren't perfect either. Sometimes small problems with OSes don't get fixed and we still live with them.

Kinda like the difference between playing the game "Operation" and doing real-life surgery. If the buzzer doesn't always go off when you touch your scalpel to the wrong part of the body in "operation", so what? If the heart monitor being used while you are being operated on forgets to sound an alarm when your heart stops beating, then you have a problem.

But there are big differences among the game publishers, ones who give their development teams the necessary time and money to allow a development of well tested games and others who are not very interested in such development processes.

Oh, believe me, I understand what you're saying. At least, in the case of the SH series, the game isn't left to rot with no patches to fix anything as a certain other 3 letter named publisher tends to do with games in a niche market. At least the devs get a chance to repair the important stuff.

I'd much rather have a good sim with a few minor problems that get fixed (either by modders or the devs) than a crappy one that the publisher refuses to do anything about.
