SH4 In career mode I'm stuck on first mission.

In career mode I'm stuck on first mission. My orders say to patrol East China Sea.
I've patroled the the heck out of it. I'm out of torpedos, shells. I've sat on top of the way point. Radioed mission progress. I need orders to return to base. Can you help me figure out what I'm doing wrong ? Newby

Are you using any mods or stock? If Stock you're doomed and the campaign sucks. If using mods such as Trigger Maru or Real Fleet Boat with RSRDC then you may not have that problem. Sometimes ignoring the orders due to lack of ammo or levels of fuel going down or damage and returning to base is the wisest thing to do.

I'm running program stock/ no mods. When I tried to return to base they would not let me reload, nor qive a new mission. Thanks for helping. Can I find this mod you suggest
on this website ?

For Patrol missions I recommend staying within 50nm, not 100nm as the first post indicates.

I do not use stock campaign. Unrealistic mission parameters and the above mentioned problem. I suggest you use RSRDC mod. But the choice is yours.

What does RSRDC stand for? I can't seem to find that mod in the list of mods.

RSRDC= Run Silent, Run Deep Campaign. It's there. I really enjoy this campaign mod. Although during the first years into the campaign you get mostly patrol and anti-shipping orders. Later on you get Spec Ops and Rescue and Photo-recon missions.

Because it's a quirk in the game, I just go sit on the star and time compress for 48 hours, put up the watch and get it over with then you can go do what you want. If the star has binoculars on it that is. And I have noticed the star doesn't always change even when the message 'clipboard' says complete. It doesn't change until you move or move the map. So watch the clock when you first get there, do 48 hours at least and see if that works.
If it has a flag, then the first part of the mission is complete just getting there, then you will recieve an additional mission, usually "engage AND DESTROY enemy merchant shipping" I think that part is based on tonnage to determine whether it completes or not.

Another "quirk" I have noticed is that sometimes I have found if you engage before the time is up (binocular mission) I have had the time start over. And if you leave the containment area before it completes it may not complete at all. So if there are several targets going by you, you may run out of torpedos before the mission is complete. Just an observation, have not really done any extensive testing.

BTW, I just got that movie last week. Used to watch it all the time as a kid (big bowl of popcorn, both my dad and sister made sure everything was ready for when it came on TV). Still enjoy watching it.

RSRD mod is one of the first I'll be added to this game, once I get the new PC built for it (I still have to finish up the second expansion pack in Morrowind - don't want to mess anything up).
