Default Sound issue GWX related?

'Lo all. I recently re-installed SH3 with GWX2.0. During attacks, or even some depth charging runs, a loud explosion tends to produce a loud popping sound that is clearly distorted, sounds almost like the sound blown speakers can produce. However, my speakers are fine. I have an onboard Soundblaster sound device, relatively recent. Any ideas?

Also, my apologies if for some reason I missed this in my search on previous sound problems.

Hi there, and welcome.

It might help, if you put sound hardware-acceleration one notch down:

- Go to Start/Run, and type dxdiag.exe
- on the Sound-tab, find the slider that reads Hardware Sound Acceleration Level
- put it 1 notch to the left, so that it reads Standard acceleration
- click Exit, and test SH3.

- if it's still not fixed, put the slider on Basic acceleration
- if that doesn't help, then get a dedicated sound-card.

Got a chance to test it briefly over lunch, still had the poping and crackling. Reduce acceleration a second notch?

easy way to test is to go to:
SilentHunterIII\data\Sound
and open that file (in winamp or...)

That's not the same as using the SH3 game-engine to play the sound, I'm afraid.

Yes, try another notch less...hope that helps.
