Default [REQ]Yeoman Mod

1st--the reason behind this request: After a week of long hours training (ie testing mods) the Porpoise put to sea for a real war patrol. 1 ship was sunk in 4 weeks. Now, down to our last 4 torpedos (all forward) a Large tanker hove into view with a Minekaze escorting. The approach was flawless!!! Everything checked out perfect! There was no way these shots could miss !

Well--after all 4 torps had run under the target without exploding, the Porpoise cleverly side-stepped the escort, went to 200 feet and set a silent-running course for Perth. LCom Charlie Chum was not in a mood to be trifled with . All was well and the range from the menacing Minekaze was opening, "Shhhh! Quiet boys!" It was at that moment that he did.

The yeoman stepped up to the 7MC and piped the watch change. The next thing the pensive Porpoise crew hears is, PING . It took us another hour to get away.

So: The next time I'm silent running and the yeoman decides to play his pipes, I want to have 2 options:

1. I can fire him out of a torpedo tube or
2. The only time we hear his pipes is when he passes gas.

Alas, I fear this mod is beyond my limited understanding of the game mechanics. I can only hope that there is a modder here who hears my boon and answers my plea.

haha

That always scares the **** out of me too. Nothing better than sneaking away from the enemy at complete silence, fearing for the fearsome PING all the time, and then PFFFFFFFT! RELIEVE THE WATCH!

Luckily the enemy doesn't probably hear that ingame.

Yeah--I'm sure they don't but the timing was perfect in this case. I almost choked on my cheese and crackers!

And, besides having detrimental effects to one's health (as you gentlemen have clearly portrayed), it's a HUGE suspension-breaker.

Default Ask and ye shall receive (well, sometimes)

Now hear this (but not quite as loudly), available at http://files.filefront.com/QuieterWa.../fileinfo.html is a very simple JSGME activatable muffler for the Yeoman. Basically, just turned the volume on him down a bit for the relieve the watch command. Enjoy!

Feel free to add this to any mod you want, just don't make any money off of it (as if!).

Edit : I did this the cheap way, just editing the wav file. Once skwasjer finishes s3d and we have the ability to adjust volumes (and other factors) in the sh3.sdl file, then we'll all be able to adjust the sound volumes to our particular liking.

I could say exactly the same thing. Only difference is that my to do list is in my head and there's so much room left over in there, it kept getting lost:rotfl: . It took reading the replies to your post about 4 times to remind me that I needed to find this one and do something with it. Now our 3 (and sometimes 4 or 5 with visitors) dogs may quit mauling me when the watch changes:p
