Question about crew skills

For example, I have good watch officer who has flak and deck gun skills so high, that the green bar above both guns is fully green with any sailor. Is there any difference if there are 3 officers with deck gun skills manning the deck gun? Or is it good enough that the green bar is full, and any surplus in officer skills is just a waste?

I think the full bar represent the maximum efectivness so there is no need to have aditional gunners.

Podvodnik prav

Full green bar indicates max. With your watch officer on the bridge and a qualified PO on the gun, the effectives of the weapon is greatly increased.

Green bar answers are correct, but some players (those who use SH3 Commander) use the 'no fatigue' option

I wanted to know... what does the 'radio' skill give you anyway? Is it just for the radio? Is it a generic term for electronic equipment and is good for the hydrophones? Does it give the radioman the ability to change tracks on the gramaphone without scratching the record? Inquiring minds want to know!!!:hmm:

afaik it is only good for the effectiveness of the hydrophone operator.
It picks up contacts sooner and keeps track of it better.

I partly agree with Canovaro's post.

But in my experience having the radio guy trained up helps in addition the hydro man. I find this especially noticable when your boat becomes equiped radar detection equipment. Seems to me a trained operator gives ealier warning of radar emisions and depending on your level of realism the emision plots on the map are more accurate.

The radio and hydro posts are the 2 I train and promote quickest.
Of course if you use SH3 Commander you can train your crew as quickly as you want and in whatever manner you see fit.

In response to the OP, it is advisable to have fully qualified FLAK offices/crew, regardless of the efficiency bar, as there is an annoying bug where the flak crew do not open fire when instructed, having trained crew lessens the occurance of this bug.

this has been hapening to me - last night to be precise!!

also, diesels do not respond when CE gives out order - at most i get 1 - 2kts

deck gunner was right off too - pulling way over to the left. i was firing about 100yds infront off merchant to make a good hit !! god knows what all that's about.

i'm relieved to hear it may not just be me, with the flak and deck guns - not that i wish it on any one else, of course !!

and now i know that training lessens the occurence of this bug.

I forgot about radar, and you are probably right. As for radio effectiveness, I believe there is no such thing.

Your problem sounds like there isn't enough fresh crew or SH3 Commander sabotage and malfunctions. :hmm:

i see.

so it's; how real do i want realism to be. :hmm:

and train my crew up.

i've said this a couple of post ago: getting an answer adds one more small piece to the ever expanding jigsaw that is SH3.

cheers
