Hi.I was wondering, when in deep waters can i go so deep that the depth charges can't reach me anymore (~200+m?)will it work?

The DCs will go deeper than you can.
Where depth is crucial, it allows you time to get away from the drop zone. Also, the attacking unit will lose contact with you earlier as it makes the attack. However, when they work in pairs, the second unit will hear your getaway.

The concept of getting "under" the depth-charge danger area comes entirely from the setting on the WaBo (Wasserbomb) which is adjustable. If I recall correctly, early in the war they were set to 120m, and as the Allies realized that the U-Boats could get deeper, as in 200+ metres, they started adjusting the depths for them to detonate at 210m sometimes if the shallower detonations weren't doing anything.
Then, they figured out how to determine target depth and things got real bad for the U-Bootwaffe.

As far as I can remember, there was another topic looooong time ago about this subject. I read that beyond 120 m, the DC is practically inofensive, due to the pressure. It doesn't let the expansive wave "expand".

To further explain Captain Zap here:
- What happens when an explosive detonates is that you get a very, very fast burn that creates a rapidly expanding cloud of hot gas. Air can be compressed, so you need comparatively more explosive to achieve the same effect as can be had underwater, because water doesn't compress. I didn't know it was at 120m that the standard RN depthcharge became ineffective due to water pressure. Learn something new every day.

If thats the case guess what happens if on one of the sides of the dc is not water but the pressure hull.

If you have a VIIC/41 then you can get deeper than the 300m where the DC's no longer render. They just disappear without exploding at 301m!

Since your pressure hull is already under pressure from the environment, you taking the sledgehammer blow that is a close Wabo/DC detonation will result in catastrophic rupturing of the pressure hull longitudinally and vertically, in short as if you were to kick a half-inflated football (soccer ball). That dent left by your foot is what happens to the pressure hull. However, in the case of a DC/Wabo detonation at depth, the affected bulkheads will collapse inwards followed by the entire ocean trying to get inside the pressure hull. Death of all hands is essentially instantaneous. We're all familiar with what happens when it isn't, the Russian submarine "Kursk" being the most recent example. Very unpleasant.

This was the reason, why some development went the way to increase the sinking rate of a charge. Best chance for the attacker is to saturate the area with explosives, that's why some smart guy in the early 50's thought: Hey boys, just nuke that f*#*% submarine! ![]()
