Default Need help with using sonar

Hi, everyone. It's my first post here on the forums, but I've been playing SH3 for several months now. I started my career in 1939 and now I'm in 1942. I recently got sonar for my boat but I'm having trouble using it. I looked in the online Wiki manual but it didn't help. I had a ship locked in my periscope but the sonarman said "No target selected" when I click either button for the sonar. I had the sonarman follow a sound contact and ordered him again for a sonar reading but he still said "No target selected." Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

welcome to subsim!

The thing to do is go to the hydrophone station, make sure you are tuned onto the bearing of the target and then send a ping.

Thanks for the reply. Do I have to tune into the bearing myself? I tried ordering the sonarman to follow the hydrophone contact and then tried to ping but it didn't work.

First, welcome aboard!

Your soundman will tell you no contact if you have the ship in sight (stock bug). If you need a sound bearing , lower your periscope. Hope this helps

Thanks for the tips and welcomes. I figured out how to use the sonar now. I had to manually tune the hydrophone to a contact and then get a sonar reading. Thanks again for the tips and I look forward to sharing some of my experiences playing SH3.
