Default [REQ] Better Sky

Just as an example here is some bmp screenshots of sh4 at 1680x1050 (rar file): http://files.filefront.com/SH4+Color.../fileinfo.html

I was wondering if anybody was looking into improving the sky in the game. If so, has there been any progress made? I'm sure it's difficult, but wow the sky looks terrible in this game. I mean come on, "It's 2007tm."

It's bad enough that I have to pretend like the sun disc doesn't bother me. Any thoughts?

This has been discussed before. The problem is that the sky texture resolution is not high enough to provide a smooth transition, and we can´t change it (unless we find a way to redirect the engine to pick a new texture file, but I believe is hardcoded)

Aw why didn't the developers make it better than what it is to begin with anyway. Oh well, was just hoping somebody found something out.

If you spend too much time worring about how the sim renders the sky environment, then you just might miss that one DD with a big bone in it's teeth, bearing down on you, ready to depth charge your a**.... all the way to eternal patrol!

Better to look at the ocean with Leo's mod in place....

Yes, yes! Let's just ignore the whole problem by telling people they should be looking at the sea and not the sky!

I agree the sky texture needs an overhaul. Good grief, we have super-powerful video cards and monitors that can run the game at 1600 and above, yet we're still stuck with a pixellated, banding-riddled sky texture.

Amen! This has really bothered me from day 1 - you spend major bucks upgrading vid vards to be able to see some impressive graphics, and you wind up looking at a sky that looks like you're still running in 16-bit color depths. I keep thinking that there's gotta be some simple driver setting or other tweak to make this look better. With all the work that the devs seem to have done changing the clouds and the weird top-of-dome anomaly from SH3, you'd think they must have spent a lot of time looking at the sky rendering - surely they couldn't have said - "yeah - that looks right"? Is there anybody that's getting decent sky with their rig?

I never said that the so called "problem" should be ignored.
Besides looks like the only way you'll get your fix, is to ask,( or..should i say "beg") for a hotfix from the dev's cause it's probably hardcoded.

I've got more important things to do ....
Like sink the f**king jap navy!

Cheers!
