The subject is Subject

I’m not sure what I found most pleasing today; the lovely ladies at the safe deposit vault of the bank this morning, the arrival of yet another book on classic Porsche, or the receiving of a Silent Hunter Downloads collection on DVD from a fellow member of our Service.

I had petitioned for a copy of, or the means to attain the much-lauded Skins Mod for GWX, and my benefactor Subject heartily offered to send me a disk. He then elevated his generosity by insisting on including the Patches (that’s right, those all-important, can’t do without but could never download patches) for SHIV.
Looks as if I’m going to the Pacific, after all ! I’ll place an order for it through the Subsim store link. From what I’ve read on the SH3 forum, from what’s on the disk and from hints from Subject, I gather that SHIV is something of a megillah for now. Here’s to hoping it finds its Support, but never detracts from SH3.

Ask and ye shall receive.
There are many liberal souls in our Community, and I am touched by a few of them. One "mookiemookie" selflessly provided me with the entire GWX ensemble. Onkel Neal sends everything AND the kitchen sink. Now Subject responds to a call for further enhancement to what some may know as an already engrossing pastime. Responding to someone who bought the SH3 software, and the machine expressly to run it, but can’t afford a monthly telephone charge. I would buy each of you dinner, I know that. Thanks to all of you, all of you who gave without the humble acceptance of at least a bosuns whistle.

My goodness. Subject has packed material enough to rival a Bonus Disk ! In addition to the SH3 GWX Skins Mod and the SHIV Patches are a plethora of Mods for each version, Modding Tools, historical data, compilations of Mods for those who can’t seem to find the right and workable mix on their own (I think that’s me), as well as instructional vignettes and links to more resources. I’ve already upped my bifocals prescription. I may have to invest in new HP Deskjet cartridges and paper. Sitting so close to a monitor, craning my neck and with a magnifying glass to boot, has got to be giving me radiation poisoning.

I decided to celebrate my good fortune. Make an appointment with the chiropractor ? No. I’ve already done that. He says my neck MUST be getting sore for a reason ? I’ve said nothing about the monitor. No, I loaded the GWX Skins Mod in SH3Commander…and went where I have never been uboating since SH2. I went to Salamis in a new career. The Med.

Ladies and gentlemen, I thought I had stepped into another remake of "Shangri-La" or "The Blue Lagoon". I don’t remember the sky being THAT blue. But I never saw it in November of 1942 from the deck of a VIIB. It’s Pretty, I’ll give it that ! But what on earth….my Porsche grey VIIB ! Some madhatter has covered it in rust, chipped paint, weathered wood, and algae ! And the enemy warships…what have you done !!! They look like…like…like WARSHIPS ! And worse, they look like they want to kill me !!! Needless to say, the effect is quite affective. I understand the weathering is to be progressive, as the files are loaded in SH3Commander "Date" folders. Such a joy, such a joy. NEATO ! I may, but this software never gets old.

In conclusion, I oftentimes wonder how and why I came to be middle aged, disabled, retired, and alone. Once in a while I’ll have a drink and think back on dancing and dating. I may read like I’m having a drink now. I am. Not out of depression. I’ve had a long day. The next two will be longer. No, I’m relaxing in the Mediterranean, listening to waves slap the hull. And thinking of comrades who care enough to give the very best.

With warmest regards,
