Default Howling wind.. :-\

GWX 1.03 is on and the wind is howling even underwater (20ft deep).
I can hardly listen to the sonar

Is it normal?

When game loads something and game stops for a second sometimes ambient sound stays in every station. It can be anything. I wonder if 2gb ram helps... I've got a very strong machine with Raid0 and game loads very slowly, I can hear when it loads new enemies nearby, when watch crew gets on bridge etc :/

Sorry, I did not dived while time compression on but to be safe,
I surfaced and dived back again.
No change. The wind is still howling within the submarine.

But ! – I saved the game. Exit and reloaded. That solved the problem.

In my case, this only happens when I alt-tab from and back to SH3 and there is a howling wind in game. Say I am chasing a contact on surface during 15 m/s wind, howls howls, somehow I remember I want to send an email, I pause the game, alt-tab, email, then alt-tab back to SH3, then the howling sound stays no matter what. The only fix is to exit and reload, as said here previously.

It happens often with me. If I go to the bridge several times, it eventually happens.

Loading gamedata into RAM doesn't only mean copying things. It also means unpacking things which is very CPU-intensive, even for a strong CPU.

yeah I know but this is ridiculous... sh4 goes way faster using the same engine (fixed) so this is another game bug (huge tga files?). Dual core A64 X2, Raid0 on Raptors, 1Gb ram and it still hangs for a second to load something during the game, very annoying especially that this is the only app that has such problems! I really use intensively my comp. We'll see if 2gb ram helps...

Extra RAM really does help. I had one of my 1Gb RAM card go faulty so had to remove it pending replacement - the slow-down was incredible. I was really relieved to get the new card installed! Now if I can just find where wifey hides the housekeeping money... another 2Gb???
