Default Back to type VIIs

I was all excited to get my new type IXC and saved up renown for something like 12 patrols until it was finally available. Now that I have it, I think it's kinda boring. They always send you to the way far off spots (Freetown, Carribean and Stateside) which takes about a half hour of realtime at the fastest time compression. So you're left just sitting there watching tv or something as you slowly trudge across the atlantic to get to your hunting grounds.

That would be all well and good if there was decent hunting, but I haven't found anything better than just west of England, well close enough for the VIIs. It's mid-1942 btw.

Basically, as soon as a transfer is requested, I'm out of Lorient. Has anyone else found the Type IXs to be somewhat of a disappointment?

Considering modern airline jets do it in around 6 hours, crossing the Atlantic in a half hour cannot be considered as a bad performance...

That's why I like my Type IXB. Shorter range but with the same payload.

I think Type VII is still my favorite though because of the maneuverability.

I enjoy accompanying the Freetown convoys .

Have plenty of time to zap them each evening. Knowing I have plenty of time, I shoot at only sure targets per attack, often firing just one torpedo. By the end of a week, I've accumulated a respectable tonnage.

I'm still curios about getting to test one of those IXD2 too
The VIIC's are a very good choice too I think but I'd love to see one of those far off harbours or just take a quick visit for NY some time .

I just got my type IX, I'm out of Lorient.

I love it. Yes, you get sent out on longer patrols, but you carry a CRAPLOAD of torpedoes. I can now routinely break away from convoys with 4-6 kills, whereas before it was 1-2 kills.

I don't see it as a confrontation between VII and IX, I think we are just saying what type we like better. I have nothing against the VII. All I am saying is that I personally like very much my IXD2 and would never change it.
Or, if you prefer, I am not saying anything bad about the VII, I am saying something good about the IXD2.
