Hi all, im running SH3 with the GXX 1.03 mod. I was wondering if there is a mod which will allow me to dive deeper to escape those pesky destroyers that hang over your head for what seems like weeks. If anyone can direct me to somwhere where i can get this mod i'd be gratefull

How deep do you want to go?
You can loose any persuer by dropping below +200m and 1kt. If that doesn't work, go deeper but go slowly. If you are using SH3Cmdr, it models thermal layers. These will help but are totally random in their depth.

Im looking to go to about 300m depth, usually my boat starts to get damaged past say 270, so 300m would be good. Also im not that good at escaping destroyers

In GWX, it is rare to be able to stay near PD while attacking a convoy. General rule is shoot and get deep. Then rinse & repeat. Try perfecting your approach to the convoy. If you get this bit right, it's entirley possible to attack and withdraw without the escorts even getting a sniff of you.

I never tried to dive so deep but isn't it possible without the 400m gauge ?
If you set the depth for 260m wait 'til you're there and then hit [D](ive), wouldn't that bring you any deeper ? And the current depth should be displayed in the ligital digital field which is right next to the depth gauge. Or at least your L.I. will call it out to you. |

I think it's mentioned in Das Boot that the shipyards rated the boats down to 90m. Past about 200m, you were seriously testing the hull integrity. I think you'd be pushing the boundries at 300m, let alone 400m deep. In order to get away from destroyers, try going down to 150-200m, engage silent running (unless you've got repair teams working) and everytime depth charges are dropped (when the sonarman tells you depth charges in the water - assuming he does) order a random course change (+/-90 degrees) and wait for them to go off. If there's only one destroyer, go to flank speed as soon as the charges are in the water - he's got to go fast to avoid damaging himself and so won't be able to hear you. If there's more than one destroyer, you should probably wait until the charges start exploding to go to flank speed. Use this to give your speed a boost until the charges stop exploding and then go back to silent running. I've read elsewhere that destroyers that are pinging you are not listening for propellor noises so you can speed up when this happens, but beware! If there are 2x destroyers after you, one can be pinging while the other listens for your propeller. Using this method, I've managed to get away from most hunters on high realism (ie no stealth meter...), but then I'm only in 1939/1940 so the escorts aren't as good as they get yet! Good luck!

The Reich gives you perfectly good submarines. There's no need to cheat. By using proper procedures and tactics and in particular GOOD JUDGEMENT you'll be ok.
Visit my website for survival tactics, convoy attack, escort evasion. I seldom need to go below 150 meters because escorts have a hard time finding me. If you practice Brag's Wiggle-Waggle, you can be certain that nearly half the time, enemy DDs will not bother you at all. ![]()

I try to dive at 1kt in GWX but the positive buoyancy always keeps me at 30 m... I tried using the Reduced Positive Buoyancy mod that comes with GWX but it conflicts with the depth charge shake mod that I installed...

![]() However, the important value here is RPM and I'm pretty sure that at 2kts you will be heard/detected. Always try to get to a safe depth before DD's or escort's get near you. In other words, fire, turn & dive. ![]()

Do you mean the positive boyuancy lifted you BY 30 meters or TO 30 meters ? When I tested it I dove to 150 meters and the boat stoped lifting when at 127m if I remember correctly.
In case of being DC'ed this is not too bad. Every time depth charges are launched you should go at flank speed and turn and you can use that opportunity to dive deeper again. Then you drop back to 1 knot. Until the next time they frop DC's you won't be bounced up that much. If you are later forced to make a quick evasive turn you can alter your depth again. Works well for me. Hope this helps a little bit. EDIT: Someone has been faster than me :> |

Diving past a sertain dept (I'm not going to tell) is rely a cheat, because the dept charges will just disapear. It's like turning on 'god' mode.

Perhaps it's the god mode because you need to be a god to reach it
