Patience gets rewarded

But last night I got a contact on my map from a convoy (100% realism), so I layed in ambush listening to the hydro, but it changed course at the last moment, and it passed me by at some range. I could try to change my ambush point and attack, but I didn't know it's new course, so I let it go and hydroshadowed it for 5 hours or so.

Later I got another update and set up an ambush, but the same thing happended. At the last moment they changed course. It was very frustrating and my crew and I were tempted to guess the ambush point and attack from there, but I figured that the change of setting up a succesful attack without knowing the target's course was very low.

This happened a third time...

But the fourth ambush brought me luck. They stayed on course right into my ambush! Hit a large tanker and a medium cargo. The escorts found me but lost me very soon, no damage.

Now I just surfaced and silently following the convoy, because I believe the targets that I hit are falling behind...

I have a feeling right now. My patience got rewarded.

Hey,

Its curious they would change course at the last minute. Do you think that they were avoiding your ambush because they somehow detected you on passive sonar? Or were you near some land geography that would encourage them to turn (like turning at the last leg of a voyage toward a port)?

Yes they were on route to Gibraltar, that was probably the reason.
Lots of ships there but also lots of course changes

Those southbound convoys do tend to zigzag a lot. In my experience they change course every 50km or so....I did once have them change course to cross my bow with the escorts way out of position so course changes are't all bad....if you're lucky
