Guten Tag, Alle,
I'm finding the stock Navmap a bit frustrating in that the depth scale indicated in shades of blue is not explained anywhere, and contrast between the levels is rather faint IMO. I really want a better idea of depths on the map, without having to ping with the Echolot. Has anyone figured out a key to interpret the shades of blue, &/or modded the map for more clarity regarding depths? Danke!

I doubt it -- All the best features of SH II were not brought into SHIII

If you are using GWX... Click on your map pencil in the F5 screen. It has color coded depth marks associated with it.

IIRC the idea behind the vagueness of the navmap was to simulate the uncertainty faced by the Uboat commander. They did'nt have accurate knowledge of all the worlds waters and could only be truely sure of the depth under the keel by using the Echolot.

I don't mind a little uncertainty -- but the map needs at least a topographic scale, so we know what increments are represented by each shade of blue. 10 meters per band? 20? I might do my own investigation with the Echolot, when I'm back in neutral waters.
Hmm, the way things are going, I may have to keep a notebook... for ex., I just configured Sergbuto's Nationality Mod, and now I have to keep track of several extra flags and if/when they become enemies. Oy... Mach's gut!
