Default Base changed to Lorient, how do I dock?

July 1940, I received radio mesaages that my boat has a new base, Lorient. So instead of the long haul back to Willi, I had a nice trip through the Bay of Biscay.

However, on getting close to Lorient I tried to dock, but that option wasn't there, only RTB! If I RTB I'll presumably not get the full renown (and may even end up at Willi? or maybe not as I only have about 5% fuel left). Is there something else I should be doing? I'm within about 20km of Lorient so I thought I would be able to dock.

I'd really like to get this right as I've just got back with 88,000 tons racked up, my best patrol yet.

This is in GWX1.03 if that makes a difference.

That's strange. Try getting closer, I'm not sure why but I have noticed that some ports require you to be closer. At Lorient I can usually 'dock' when i've just passed the island and I'm almost entering the estuary.

Good luck and I hope it works for you.

:hmm:IIRC July '40 is too early for the 2nd to be at Lorient, I thought it was moved in Sept '40.

Very Odd, you may be stuck my friend unless you warp. However, wait for a more definative answer from someone else. (wanna step in JS?:rotfl

Lorient doesn't become available as a player base until Sep 1940.

My guess is you received the message "U 30, 52, 34, 99: Report to the port of Lorient.", which is broadcast on 5 July 1940 and is really just ear candy - albeit confusing if you happen to be in U-30, 52, 34 or 99.

Alternatively you may have received "U-99: New orders as assigned: Arrive 50 miles West off Lorient." or even "A new submarine base is available for operations in Lorient." which are both broadcast in July. Again, "ear candy" only messages.

At midnight on 1 Sep 1940 you will get a distinct "Player base changed to Lorient" message (of course, this is 2 Flotilla only).

Thanks Dan. Now that you mention it I don't think I was past the island so maybe that interferes with docking. Unfortunately I'll have to wait until tonight to try it .

Don't fancy a trek back to Willi with 5% fuel and the electric engine trick!

EDIT: Ooops just read yours JS. That sounds worrying, but thanks for the comments (and your excellent software etc. while I'm on). I got at least one message (or maybe more either side of a save) saying 'U47 base has changed to Lorient' or something very similar. I'm in U47 so it seemed pretty clear. You're also making me wonder about the date now, will check later. 2nd Flotilla bit is obviously not a prob with U47.

Insofar as docking, the best indication that you are within range of the base is the short, but distinct, "pause" that you get from SH3 as you are nearing the base. After that, you know you are within range.

The sail up the estuary and into Lorient is nice and enjoyable. I always dock manually and enjoy the music. It's one of the great rewards after a hard patrol.

Yes, that would be the way to do it, especially first time! I assume renown etc are okay with a manual dock and that you can actually dock okay this way as far as the game is concerned?

Excuse my ignorance but I read a few posts about being too far *in* to get the 'dock at...' option.

Lovley, lovely, lovely. Yes that's right it worked.

Dan was right, I needed to get past the island.

JScones was also right, I gave the wrong date. My apologies it was Sept 25th 1940 not Juy 1940. Hmmm.

And to top it all I took Brag's advice and sailed up to the pens. Very impressive and some nice surprises, like the wrecks.

Thanks all. I now have my Oak Leaves and a grand total of 325,000 tons!

Congratz on the Oak Leaves.
If you sail past the sub-pens, turn to port twice, sail up to the dock, there's a band playing, nurses waving and dock idlers waving--quite a homecoming. Besides, you get an additional 100 renown.

When you look at the chart, there is a blue dot with the name of the harbour. That's the location were you're supposed to dock
