Default AAAAAAAAARGH!!!!! Bloody updates!

Why does God always put the boot in? Why have I got automatic updates selected on this bloody computer?
I have a great girlfriend and 3 great kids. I have a job I hate and a mortgage I hate even more. Ten to 1am is my time when all are asleep and I take the U-boat for a spin. I'm not a good kaleun. I'm not a talented kaleun. But I'm a kaleun who tries. I sail and I sink. I would join the two patrol and your dead club but I never fulfill the criteria of finishing the first patrol. I'm used to this but tonight was different! Tonight was special
I went out as per usual shooting the odd tramp steamer passing the time to my patrol grid. But today happens to be the day my PC scans and looks for updates. Kept getting the little bling noise and a message box telling me a fantastic update to my spamkiller had been found and I should restart to install. I click 'I'll do it later' it goes away. It comes back every half hour or so.
I found THE convoy. Heavily escorted but chockablock full of tankers and large merchies, 1000 m under the keel and 5 eels in their tubes. I got inside the screen and shot 2 salvoes and the stern. I sank 2 large tankers and winged a large cargo. I dived, evaded, reloaded and followed up. I got 2 more medium merchants. I survived a depthcharge assault by 2 escorts for bloody ages. When they left I decided to go back and finish the large cargo. I had about 54000 tonnes including the various little guys on the away which is some achievement for me and surviving to boot. I still have 6 fish left and about half of my deck gun ammo, I've got a good feeling about this patrol. Just as I'm plotting the course the little message box pops up and I click on it by mistake Computer begins to restart. I actually cried out and my missus got up! (she told me to grow up) Its all gone I'm back in Willi at the start of patrol#2 and BdU wont believe me.
Wonder if my boss would believe that I'm sick tomo:hmm:

Ah who am I kidding. Prob would have crashed into the dockside on the way home anyway. Maybe a transfer to the pacific fleet is in order:hmm: Lots of wide open water to not do stuff in

I've been in the same situation. I had sunk five or six ships, then SHIII crashed when I tried to switch from submerged attack to surface cruise mode via the crew management screen. The game has crashed several times under exactly the same circumstances, due either to a bug in the program or maybe because my system RAM [512MB] isn't sufficient.

In any case, I now do a save immediately after I sink a ship. I also avoid having the computer manage the crew assignments while lots of things are going on in a mission.

fortunately I'm on a wireless set up, so I always switch the internet off before I go on patrol. I find it slows the game down and now having read your post there's an even better reason for staying off - line.

I feel for you mate that must have really hurt.

That's a positive bug, been reported several times. We've all dunnit. Just move the crew manually - think it as a positive feedback towards your crew

To get rid of the micro****s updates

Click My Computer,
go to the Configuration Panel
click Automatic Updates
then you have 2 options suitable to fix ur problem

1: put a Tag in the option: Notify when updates are available , but do not download nor install them automaticly.
2: Disable the automatic updates.

that will fix your issue.
good luck

What ever god you happen to believe in has nothing to do with it, it's Murphys law.

Had a good game rolling the other weekend, it was aroound 2:30 am. All of a sudden the game gets choppy, the pc starts winding away and the game goes down.
Then I get a message "Virus database has been updated"
Forgot to to disable A/V before starting the game, Doh!

I just run off my computers limited account so I don't get interupted by updates and what not while I'm playing, works well as I don't get bombarded by viruses and stuff either.
