St. Nazaire Press Gangs?

Guten Tag, Kaleuns,

I've got an interesting problem here. It's September 25, 1940 for me. I'm in the 1st Flotilla with my trusty VIIC on my first career. I've decided I'd like to try my hand at the larger IX-class boats so I'm trying to transfer to the 2nd Flotilla in Lorient. When I apply for the transfer, it gets approved but my base is changed to St. Nazaire and I find myself in the 7th Flotilla. Try as I might, I just can't seem to get myself into the 2nd Flotilla. Oddly enough, if I try to transfer to the 7th Flotilla the game just crashes to the desktop. It seems the 7th prefers to draft their Kaleuns rather than accept voluntary service. Is there a trick to it that I'm missing or is this a bug...er...undocumented feature? Am I stuck in the 1st Flotilla for the remainder of the war or forced into conscription in the 7th Flotilla.

I've got the stock SH3 install with the latest (1.4b) patch and SH3Commander 2.7.0.130. My system isn't a powerhouse, but it should have enough to run the game decently enough: P4 3.0, 2.5 GB RAM, >500 GB HDD, and a cheesy ol' FX5600 256MB graphics card (AGP) running my dual display.

Any helpful hints, tips, tricks, money, beer and/or sarcasm accepted...

Thanks

Welcome aboard kaleun
I'm at work at the moment but I'm not sure Lorient was used as a base until 41 :hmm:

Someone's sure to correct me if I'm mistaken

Lorient becomes active end of August 1940. At least I got change of base orders sometime in August while doing the dirty to Tommy on Western Approaches

Just re-read your post and now realise what your after matey
6 months in same flotilla or 3 completed patrols before your allowed a transfer

Edit: nope that wasn't the original question/problem either (hectic period at work)
Okay then....quickest fix has gotta be to try starting a career with SH3 Cmdr

I have never been able to select a base while in career and I ask for a transfer. As bad as I am I would get sent to the Russian Front.(whole other story there) I can select at a start of career if the base is available. This is just my experience anyway. You might have to go where you are sent.

The IX is a nice boat, fat and full of torps Welcome aboard!

Alas AVG you need to do 3 patrols in a flotilla to get a transfer
As you never pass 2 ........ well you know the rest

Thanks for the replies.

I've successfully completed more than the requisite three patrols and I've been in the 1st Flotilla since starting my career in Sept '39, so I've got both of those angles covered. At first I thought my Renown was too low to transfer, but that's not it since the request is actually approved. It just won't move me where I want to go. Actually, it just won't let me out of the 1st Flotilla. Transferring to the 2nd moves me to the 7th in St. Nazaire and transferring to the 7th Flotilla crashes the game. Trying to actually start a patrol after transferring to the 2nd and being Shanghai'd into the 7th also crashes the game. It seems I'm stuck in the 1st Flotilla which might not be so bad if I hadn't already worked my way through all the nurses on base and most of the U-Boat groupies too (I understand the whole "any port in a storm" thing, but I just can't drink enough Schnapps to make Bernard cute).

Ahem...anyway... At first I thought maybe I was trying to transfer too soon, even though the opportunity presented itself, so I decided to fit in one more patrol before requesting a transfer. Twenty two days later, I'm still experiencing the same problem. At this point, my options are to try yet another patrol and hope the problem goes away (I doubt it), start a new career and hope the problem goes away, try to repair/reinstall and hope the problem goes away, or just get drunk and and hope the problem goes away (hey, it worked with my ex-wife). Since I've worked hard to get this far and I think I'm doing well, I'd really like to keep going on this career and maybe even complete it. I guess that leaves me with the repair/reinstall option. And, oh yeah, I'm outta whiskey.

Which leads me to my next question. Is there anything I need to do preserve my existing career other than backup and restore my career file in My Documents?

Thanks again.

Aaaarghhhh!!!

Just did a complete reinstallation and I'm still seeing the same thing. Completely uninstalled first, then torched anything left in the installation folder. Reinstalled, updated, restored my career (which seems to work fine), but I still can't escape the 7th Flotilla conscription team. I'm starting to wonder what they put in those drinks at the nightclub...

Is there any other way to change to the 2nd Flotilla? Perhaps editing a *.cfg file or ten? Any and all suggestions welcome...
