Default sinking markers not there...

Hi,
Recently i spotted that some ships are sinking without leaving a mark on the map (red nor grey) but these sinkings appear in the captains log. When you exit mission all ships sunk are noted as allied. Have you got any idea what's causing it?
Grey markings on the map sometimes turn out to be allied in the end as well. (?)
This is a random thing in both cases though. A bug...?

I'm using GWX + Ocean Blue's Final Damage Mod, just started a new career October 1939 2nd patrol. And no, i'm not saving the game in 50 km vicinity of the target/ship nor land.

Any ideas guys?
Thanks.

I get this also. I did notice it in stock SH3 occasionally but I find it to be exacerbated in GWX.

Exactly.
Isn't that odd? Stock SH3 had it too but it wasn't so common.
I also found that it happens at rough seas the most often. But these ships don't sink 'cause of bad weather though...

I get it, too, on occasion. Never had it on stock SHIII

Every day I read this forum, I discover a new feature of SH3 that I have not discovered.

Sunk ships are marked on the map? Really?

I have never seen it in 7 patrols...

Perhaps you need to have a proper realism setting? I selected the setting that does not give you map updates of contacts. That seems to control a whole bunch of stuff...

Obviously it's not happening at "no map contacts update" setting. It's only when the god's eye view is ON.

It's just an observation of a certain problem.

I get this problem too, and it seems to be happening most often when I dont watch it go down. Its a pain, because it can affect my running from a incoming destroyer.
I also get, wierd end of patrol reports, saying axix and neutral tonage sunk, and I always check the flag and compare to flag page with dates.

I have noticed this too since installing GWX. Never noticed it in stock or GW1.1a. However, that is not to say that the issue wasn't present in prior versions. For me its a minor issue that I can live with considering the benefits that GWX brings to SHIII assuming that GWX has anything to do with it in the first place.

I play with no map contact updates, so i never get the sinking marker I do wish that we could place it though manually - right now I place an X where each sinking is, but it's easy to lose track of them in all my markings. Each sinking deserves a special mark. I just like estimating the sinking position rather than have it auto-plotted.

I find that if it doesn't appear as soon as the "She's goning down" message comes then it will never appear at all. It doesn't seem to be dependant on whether or not I happen to be watching the ship as she dies or not. Plenty of times the marker has appeared while I've been looking at the nav map.

Speaking of which, is there a mod out there that might allow you to write on your map. I would love to be able to scribble myself some notes, without relying solely on "X"'s...
Might not be possible due to zooming in and out and scrolling, but I would love to know if this might be possible...

Sorry, I mean close enough to watch it, I dont have to be actually looking through the periscope or external view. So yeah, looking at the nav map would also be ok.
I have noticed it happen when I sail away before it goes down, then sometimes it shows sometimes it doesnt. I cant remember having it not show, if I stay in the area when it goes down.

I have tried to see if I could place the sunken ship mark (ShipDestroyed.tga) manually or find the "no map updates" trigger but the only reference to this icon is in maps.cfg, therefore I conclude that it is hard coded!
