Hi.
I'm wanting to upgrade to a Type IX boat. I'm currently in St. Nazaire and the date is 15, August, 1940. Which groups were equipped with these during this timeframe? Thanks, Bob

Ok, thanks, Morts. I wonder what the trade-in value on my VII C is. It's high mileage but it's got all the upgrades like a turbo and the performance battery.
There are a couple of unsightly welded on patches in the hulls from that time Bernard tried to fit a home brew water injection mod. Luckily, you can only see them when the boat is in drydock. Bob

There is nothing better than taking your IXC, going all the way to the US Coast and spend 2 months there sinking ships

I was glad to see this thread. I'm going to upgrade to a Type IX in my current career if I make it that far. I did once but then kind of let her go and went back to a VIIC. I feel this was a mistake on my part because I didn't really play the IX long enough to get a good feel of what she was capable of.
Mind you, I hate Hate HATE the diving time on a IX, though. How do you guys deal with that later in the war when Allied aircarft are thick as mosquitos...?

Decks awash helps. Cuts your dive time in halve. I'd only do that in biscay bay though cause its costly in fuel. The biggest thing, is learning when to crash dive, and when NOT to. |

So now I am a member of 2. flottilla.
To celbrate, I went straight out and got very badly damaged by a Town class destroyer with the best sonar operator, ever. I sank him by letting him ram me once too often. They were glancing blows but it kept my damage repair crew very busy. All my motors and engines damaged beyond repair. So there I was: one kill to my credit and dead in the water to show for it. Don't these things come with a towing rider? ![]() Bob
