Default Attack Orders

I am on my 3rd patrol from Kiel, Jan 1/40. SH3Gen gave me the following primary...
"You have been given a very important mission. Force entrance into Hartpool, and sink any marchants and other valuable targets you find. You will be given every possible support by HQ."

What do you think of this, my assigned area is AN47.

Rob

BTW, Who was the OinC at Kiel in January 1940?

Rob the orders from SH3Gen do not award renown. They are there for eye-candy and historical accuracy. You can follow them if you want obviously but if you want to get renown you should go to your patrol box and sink some ships

Hartlepools got next to nothing in it anyways, at the best of times. I used to frequent it often. But, it is at least an open port and gives you the opportunity to learn harbour-raiding in a relatively easy environment.

I agree, I've been in there and found nothing. You also need to watch out for minefields along the east coast of England, which I came across during 1940.

During the Norway Campaign. I received orders (U-49) to prevent landings in Narvik. As I followed orders, it lead me on a wild goose chase. Burned too much fuel, saw a few German ships. Got zero tonnage. Then they stole my electric torpedoes after I refueled in Narvik.

In GWX you can tell BDU to shove it .

It is a covert Allied operation that sends you off to nowhere while the merchants make port in England...stick to the coded enigma messages!!!!

I would be very interested to hear about your, or anyones results. During testing Sh3Gen I went to port a few times and very often found fat targets. But I am not playing very much myself.

In theory, success rate should vary. Targets should be there, but after a lot of random factors.

With the much better escort AI in GWX, port raiding has become very dangerous, so taking on that type of mission means a big risk, as it should be.

But you mean radio messages right? Radio messages can be very tightly adjusted to the campaign file, but they can also be totally "virtual". So it depends a lot on the radio mod you're using. Has nothing to do with Sh3Gen btw.

P.S: Does it really say "marchants" or is that typo yours?

I haven't, but some players reported that and it was said that the ship just reached her destination point and was erased from the map.

In turn I once shadowed a single merchant west of Gibraltar and suddenly there were three ships instead of one. I'm also sure there were not there before, so they must have been spawned there when I was not looking.

I think you were unlucky Rob, as the ship reached it's waypont and respawned in a different place in the map. I had this happening to me during the beta testing period. I was in the Black Sea, fired a 3 torpedo salvo to a Large Tanker only to see it disappear just before the torpedoes hit

As the lightship was stationary

They are scripted that way

I guess that the ship disappeared at its alloted time\date

Depending on what nation it was from it would have disappeared when the parent country entered the war
Some stay - most dont
