C'mon guys, don't you see that? The graphic engine is EXACTLY the same that was used in SH4, with an addition of god rays, bloom and HDR.

Same plankton as that we seen in Indian Ocean, same 'oily' water with quite unrealistic look. From my POV, nothing major was improved in 3D engine since SH4.

And I must say, these beautiful promo screenshots differ from real 3D engine video too much.

I'm far from crying about it. Simply stating my likes or dislikes of what I've seen just like every other bugger here. I'd prefer not to have to mod the thing out if it was posible simply to drop it from the config screen. If not then it will get modded out for those that don't like it. I'm more than happy for the effect to be there in the right context, just not the FP or external cameras.

Correct, I never have; except sunglasses, but those, not very often in the rain.

It's not that bad to have SH4 improved engine... SH4 was not bad graphic engine - but sort of unpolished one, with lot of space for improvement

3D fire, smoke and clouds would be "main homework" for a sim to be played 2010 - 2014...

Still waiting to see storm waves video...

Export DDS files to Photoshop, copy and paste, save, re-import back to SHV & Done!
IMHO there are much bigger things to worry about.
Not even that - if it's anything like SH3 then all one needs to do is delete the "censored" image files from the textures folder and voila...the uncensored images stored in the .dat files automatically display.

It is kinda "glass screen in front of the eyes", but I guess it's hard to simulate rain in the eyes otherwise - so I don't mind it. Besides, I remember from my military days how annoying and distracting rain in the face could be. And now I wear glasses, it's even more annoying.

In any event, if it's not an option of some sort then it will take a modder about 10 minutes to remove.

The good news is that the graphics engine is already made. In such a case currently underway to work on improving game mechanics and (I hope) eliminating big bugs.

and - I hope - bugs known on SH3/ SH4...

I thought the water drops on the screen was a nice touch. It seem obvious to me that this effect is not made for sake of realism, but for the gameplay.

Sh4's engine is very inefficient in terms of it's use of system resources and has lots of flaws. I am currently playing DCS's Blackshark (Russian helicopter sim, it's amazing!), it's much more advanced graphically (it should be, it came out this year!) than SH4 but runs much more smoothly. If they've simply tacked-on yet more graphic tweeks like; post-processing filters, bloom, volumetric fog, light-rays etc. without a major software rewrite, then it's gonna run really badly on all but a super-computer. There was talk some time back of te Devs dowing a major rewrite of the engine, so it could be ok

What did you expect, a complete new graphics engine?

The Ubisoft studio in Romania, uses for all their games, the game engine called 3D GDS System.

Agree 100%

I don't get it... "It has water, it has ships, hey! it's the SH4 engine WTF?!!!". C'mon guys ofc it will look similar at some aspects. But the clouds, the terrain, those are new. You can't blame it all on HDR and light shafts. It looks damn good

Agree 100%... The terrain looks very good. The volumetric clouds look stunning. Can't wait to get my hands on it. The water color and underwater view need to be tweaked but the basics are excellent.
